IC going to On3

Since the move is only days away and people are starting to confront having to change sites, I’m getting the sense it’s going to be an absolute shit show based on some of the things posted already.
I am still confused.I love the IC staff reports I guess I will lose 6 mths worth of supscription-that does not bother me much-but as you recall I am kind of technologically challenged-and I don't want to get lost on some nutjob site

Here or at the new site?
New site. Nothing will change for us except maybe some more folks than usual joining.

As @mpaer said above, 247 and On3 aren’t going to work together to make subscriptions valid across the platforms so people are going to get screwed out of some money. That among many other things will make for a headache. But, that’s the cost of change.

I’m still anticipating that Ben Sherman will do something to accommodate the annual
subscribers above and beyond the $1 deal.

Will be interesting to see what kind of latitude Shannon Terry and On3 give them.

I agree with this. I’ll stay with IC regardless of subscription accommodations, but I suspect Ben will do the right thing for his people. And I think he has the leverage to have worked something out like that.

That's pretty shady if people don't get refunded or the subscriptions don't carry over.

The subscription is with 247, not IC. 247 will honor the subscription by providing UNC news despite IC leaving the network.

If IC wants to do something via On3, that's on them and On3 to provide.

OK. Well, it still looks like you have to buy a subscription to be able to read and post on the boards there. The boards there look pretty crappy, too.

That may be technically true but it is not practically true. People are subscribing for IC’s content, not 24/7’s content.
The real question here is what is "legally true".

And I'm guessing it's that the subscription is with 247 and not IC.

IANAL, but I am wondering if folks who renewed in the last month or two might have grounds for a prorated refund since there's no way all of this happened overnight and they likely renewed after negotiations had started for IC to leave 247.

Today IC was running a header that said 50% off a years subscription
I vomited in my mouth

I offered the guys on the IC Wordle thread to come over here, if for nothing else than to post on the Wordle thread. But maybe some will stick around and post on other threads too..

I’m not sure the legalities matter because the dollars won’t warrant a class action suit. And I remain confident that Ben will take care of the annual subscribers one way or the other. But, yeah, if this were a bigger deal, there could be a consumer fraud issue.

You have more faith in what Ben and IC can do regarding subscribers than I do. Shannon Terry seems to be a bit of a douche when it comes to dollars and cents. He also doesn't seem to understand web stuff. As someone pointed out in that thread about user data being brought over, he posted that, then 3 weeks later, nothing. My guess is, someone told him they could do it and then realized it was a logistical nightmare.

But, we'll see.

This is, I think, the fourth time IC has switched networks. It has been Rivals, Scout, 247 (and FoxSportsNext for about two weeks). Every network switch has been straightforward and fair - and Terry was the founder of both Rivals and 247.

I am not at all worried about Terry. IC will be calling the shots here. Now IC did disappoint me with the somewhat emotional decision to shut down ZZL-P with very little notice. I suppose they could make another “screw the customer” decision again. But I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt until I have reason to believe otherwise.
