IC going to On3

Yea
that is weird

Eh, I'm one.

I'd been considering cancelling IC anyway, just because the portal has changed so much of what I used to love about following the team. I always became very invested in our players, listened to all their interviews, and came to think of them as individual human beings more than just basketball players. Over the course of years, there was a kind of investment in each of the players. The portal has really taken that all away. Why follow a recruit or try to get a feel for who they are as a person if they'll be gone a year after they get here, probably with a sour taste in either their mouths or the mouths of our coaching staff? So I'd been already sort of checking out of the kind of engagement I'd had with the team and the sport anyway.

At least with Paramount+ I can get some TV shows that my kid likes to watch.

My experience on On3 via web browser has been much better than the app. Hardly any ads, only the small banner at the bottom. The app served me a 30 second takeover ad every 2-3 minutes. Just absurd.

@Rock am i wrong to think that the underlying forum software at on3 is the same as here (though maybe different version number)? Or are they just sharing some similar modules, such as the posting box etc?

My final(?) observation from today is how many folks - on both 247 and On3 - are complaining about how terrible the On3 boards are and how the 247 boards are so much better.

The weird thing is that I'm pretty sure these are largely the same folks who were complaining 8 years ago about how terrible the 247 boards were and how the Scout boards were so much better.
I actually think it's the opposite now that I have been on the On3 board some.

Yeah I paid for IC Premium for a month or so proabably around the 09’ Title. It didn’t do anything for me. At this point I just tune in when the season starts. I support the pay for play but I have no desire to follow recruiting.
I just subscribed to see what I think. As for paying for IC premium I decided that 35 cent a day was worth the content. I did have to cut back on gum.

I’m not Rock, but I’m absolutely sure both message boards are built on the XenForo platform.

Both the visual & functional similarities are just too great for it to be anything else.

so then we have a good template of what it can do if it is implemented properly.

I need to follow someone here to try to figure out why that is not functioning over there.

so following someone does not seem to set off an alert when they post over here either. Not sure what the follow function does then.

I believe some people limit who can see their user profile to only users they follow. There could be other functions as well.

I can't believe anyone actually pays for that stuff.
I paid for IC for years, not for their "premium" content which I found useless and tedious, but to support a board on which I posted and enjoyed for years. I viewed it pretty much the same as my financial support for this board. Then they split off the ZZL-P into a separate board which greatly reduced the enjoyment I derived from the board. Then they eliminated political discussion entirely and the regular ZZL became a tremendous yawn, so I finally cancelled my membership.

I must admit I always thought the confidentiality around IC "premium content" was hilarious, and the scolding of people who shared that "premium content" outside the club members was ridiculous. I mean, if you pay for the content what is to stop you from sharing it? It's not like members sign a NDA or something. The policing of that content by other premium members always made me chuckle , like paying $100 a year made you a member of an exclusive club and everyone was bound by some sort of confidentiality agreement.
