Possibly. I hadn't really even thought about it from that angle. I do think he probably wants to appear tough on protesters who are breaking the law, which I am fine with. I 100% support our right to protest And yes you can be a grown man who wears a shawl like Anthony Perkins in Psycho or ride a walker like it's a wheelchair while wearing a child's rainbow bike helmet.. I 100% support swift action when protesters are blocking roadways, destroying property etc.And exactly the type of thing the Trump admin wants — any pretext to send in the National Guard. This particular clip mostly worries me that something somewhere is really going to pop with protester/Fed violence and I worry what happens next.

Those involved are all immigrants and this is the immigration catch-all thread, right?Wrong thread, nitwit
A lot of politicians and activists on the left have been urging restraint in protests, pointing to statements by Miller and Trump and other administration officials indicating they are seeking pretext to declare an insurrection. But masked ICE and other federal officials continue to escalate their behavior and eventually the relative restraint is going to fail.Possibly. I hadn't really even thought about it from that angle. My most sincere hope is that every human who works with and for ICE suffers unimaginable shame and all the worst karma that life has to offer for the remainder of their lives.

Trump is absolutely itching to have a pretext to nationalize the National Guard in Illinois and send in supporting military to Chicago — to the point that Trump most of his announcement about sending National Guard to Memphis with the support of the TN Governor talking about how much he yearns to go into Chicago, if only Pritzker would invite him. But ICE doesn’t need an invitation to use very public and very escalators tactics for immigration enforcement in Chicago and if protests against that escalatory behavior get sufficiently violent, then I have no doubt we will see the Trump Admin use that to justify federal action in Chicago. They are telling us openly what they want to do and then pushing and trying to provoke the circumstances to get what they want. And it puts people in a situation where if they resist, their resistance could be used as a basis to cause the behavior they are protesting to expand to more people and get much worse, but when they restrain resistance the federal immigration enforcement behavior intensifies.
I really don’t want to know how ugly things could get if this escalatory police behavior is met with a violent response. Trump and MAGA hold most of the levers of police power right now and are working at unlocking remaining legal barriers that they seem to agree restrain them to some extent. I think they have rightly calculated that eventually they can push enough people who oppose them far enough to ignite the violent protest they want to “have to”’put down with federal military action.
I'm guessing that Trump turned his attention to this after the Hyundai debacle. He wanted the South Koreans to train Americans, which was of course impossible. So as he usually does, he addresses a lack of competitiveness with exclusion. Keep the better foreign goods out. Keep the better foreign workers out (they are better because otherwise they wouldn't be hired).
This would be an absolute catastrophe for everyone. I wonder if he's going to be talked out of it. I foresee bad things happening in the stock market.
One of the many examples of how decisons on things like "How many Med School seats should we fund" are made very poorly.I had a friend (RIP) that was very much involved nationally in "How Many Specialists should we have-in his case Orthopeadic Surgeons . About 20 years ago -to his shock-the numbers all changed. As he said "the number of Orthopaedic Surgeons that work in the Triangle are what we traditionally thought could cover the whole State ". According to the Business Standard, over 30% of medical residents in the United States are international graduates, and between 10,000 to 43,000 residency spots are currently filled by H-1B visa holders. There is an ongoing doctor shortage in the country that was expected to worsen without new restrictions. The Association of American Medical Colleges projected a shortage of 20,200 to 40,400 primary care doctors by 2036, prior to the new H-1B fees.
