While we are undoubtedly succeeding tactically in this conflict, I think it's becoming more and more obvious with each passing day that we are failing strategically. Iran is successfully exploiting the fact that while the U.S. is now facing intense pressure from our allies in the Middle East and beginning to send shockwaves through the global economy, Iran still holds the Straight of Hormuz firmly in its control and holding a massive percentage the global energy market at its mercy. They also know that the longer amount of time this conflict goes on without an end in sight, it will politically and economically erode the Trump administration, so they have no reason to, nor intention of, coming back to the negotiating table. There is no longer any reason for Iran to stop its nuclear program, and in fact there is more incentive than ever before to develop it. There was a nearly finalized agreement on the table that could have resolved most of the issues but that still got the Supreme Leader blown up. The U.S. and Israel have truly stepped in it now.
I’m not at all sure we’re succeeding tactically. Iran is a big fucking country.

I see videos of Israel being hit hard overnight and today but I am not seeing it reported in mainstream news.

Not sure what to believe. Please someone enlighten me.

I don't know. I'm pretty liberal and a pacifist for the most part but I'm also one of the people that think if we're in a war, we shouldn't be holding back attacking military targets.

That's how wars go on forever. Better for both sides to go hard and make it short.

I get the counter argument that this is basically a mini Pearl harbor sneak attack and we would be incensed if this happened to us but I suspect most voters aren't going to be quite that empathetic.
I think this is far too nuanced and complicated to be a political issue. But I think Americans who are engaged should be aware of the details, debate the legality and ethics of it and assess the damage it may do to our international standing and to future combat decisions.

Well, here you have it. Interesting prediction. I will note that supposedly there's is about 180 million barrels of Russian oil just floating around somewhere that until now has not had a buyer. I suspect, this is the reason the markets haven't fully reacted in the hope Trump will find a way to TACO out in time. But it won't take long for the market to suck up that excess oil.

UAE freezes Iranian assets. This is a huge deal truly. The use of UAE as Iran's bank brought them access in trade and foreign currency, especially side stepping.

Iranian drone wars backfires here against UAE and Qatar because of lack of selectivity. Choking Iran's economic engine is going to apply enormous pressure. An unexpected bit of luck if confirmed.

It's almost like there weren't any easy answers just laying around untried because the dedicated non-partisan experts who have been on the front lines of protecting America's interests in the world for the last 50 years were just to soft/lazy/stupid to to implement those easy answers that were obvious to all us uneducated masses sitting in our Archie Bunker Barcaloungers at home.

Who would have thought that it would turn out to be more complicated and the easy answers were traps for fools. Who could have possibly predicted that?
