Israel launches attack on Iran

Not surprisingly, crude oil is spiking while the equity market is taking a hit. This means more petro dollars to the Russians and an increase in gasoline prices in the US. How prolonged the disturbances are will be geopolitical, naturally. I hope we can avoid the economic hits like the 1970s. The US is far more energy independent today, but Trump has squashed the green energy section...and O&G are global commodities.

US, Israel's joint deception tricked Iran through nuclear talks, Trump comments

Israeli officials were initially concerned that US President Donald Trump's Thursday evening comments, suggesting Israel "might attack," alerted the Iranians.

“The United States and Israel took part in a joint deception of Iran ahead of the IDF's strikes on the Islamic Republic's nuclear program, a senior Israeli official told The Jerusalem Post on Friday morning.

According to the official, the nuclear negotiations scheduled for Sunday were part of the deception tactic used against Iran.

Israeli officials were initially concerned that US President Donald Trump's Thursday evening comments, suggesting Israel "might attack," alerted the Iranians.

The statement, which was made at around 7:00 p.m. Israel time, mere hours before the attacks, was perceived as a kind of green light for Israel. The fear that this remark could expose the attack operation ultimately led to Trump's late-night tweet at midnight, stating that "the US seeks a diplomatic solution."…”

Trump’s truth social post was late night in Jerusalem, just after 5 pm ET last night.

Folks need to examine the timing of Huckabee’s tweet about monitoring the situation — if he posted prematurely, as it appears he did (but maybe not — maybe that’s when emergency notices went to Israelis to take shelter?), then he should be recalled from his post and asked to resign (or just fired). Regardless of the view of whether Israel was justified in tarring this action, it would be a major SNAFU for the U.S. Ambassador to Israel to prematurely tip the attack.

All that said, Netanyahu clearly want to force Trump’s hand here, so call me a little skeptical of the “joint deception” claim beyond Trump Admin clearly knowing ahead of time and trying to repair having practically announced the attack was coming. Hard to know since Trump didn’t issue a statement after this began, which gives others the opportunity to fill the information void.

Wow. I really find it hard to believe Bibi would ask Trump to assist in any way, including setting the stage with disingenuous overtures for negotiations. There’s just no way he could be trusted to stay on script and not say something prematurely self-congratulatory.

So what angle is Netanyahu working here? Trying to box Trump in and prevent anything that could be interpreted as separation between Israeli and US interests?

Seems like Israel zoomed past “TOO LATE” doing the military equivalent of 100 in a 25-mph school zone last night …

Israel is "the largest American aircraft carrier in the world that cannot be sunk". Silly to believe the USA is not involved.

Israel has put on a masterclass on warfare and covert operations over the past year. The Hezbollah pagers and the quick decimation of Iran's military leadership and nuclear facilities with very little to no casualties on their own side is absolutely impressive. Glad they are our friend and not our enemy.

Yes. They’ve done an exemplary job of killing Hamas fighters and leaders while killing few civilians or damaging civilian buildings…….

Given their successful attacks in Iran (what we’re being told are successful), I’m wondering how the IDF and Mossad and other Israeli defense and intelligence groups whiffed on the 10/7 attacks?

I think we are likely to quickly find out that Iran is a paper tiger. They will send their drones back, which will be easily dismissed. They will plot and scheme mini-terror schemes but the bottom line is they won’t be able to effectively do much. That makes the need to take out the nuclear sites even more important as a state with nothing to lose having a nuclear weapon was not a good outcome.

Yep - what will be interesting to learn more about, are the elements of Operation Rising Lion that operated inside Iran yesterday in concert with the air assets. So far, the IDF is reporting zero casualties and the opening blows seem titrated to illicit specific Iranian responses which will be in turn meet with more action. Will be studied very soon in Carlisle.

Same way that the US whiffed on 9/11 despite having probably the second best intelligence apparatus in the world. Underestimating the enemy and poor communication.
