Ok, but you stated "Closed border" which implies no one comes in. This, as is know, is very short sighted.

And the percentages of immigrants that are, as trump advertises all of them are, criminals is very low. It's no where near the fear mongering levels of the orange oracle trump states. And there are already laws in place to address this.

The majority of people in this country would agree that we need immigration and that we need sound policy around immigration. But trump has presented no policy, hell, he prevented policy. And people voted for that, why?

Anyone could see that trump had no actual plan to create policy or solve the problem. He just lies and lies and then tries to circumvent the law for his presidential reality show. Because all he is, is a grifting conman entertainer. AKA piece of shit.

No, I think we have laws regarding crossing the border illegally, staying here after your visa has expired, etc.

I also think we have established processes for requesting asylum in the country.

I'm not a Van Jones hater but takes like this are so indescribably stupid. Yes, what happened with Biden was deeply wrong and probably put a morally bankrupt geriatric imbecile in the White House for the next four years. I have no problem if the people in Biden's inner circle are held accountable for their lack of transparency and their failure to convince Biden to do the right thing in early 2023.

But NOTHING lasts long in this political environment. Think of all the insane shit Trump does on a daily basis that gets forgotten within a week max. Yes, Fox talking heads will still be prattling on about the Biden cover-up for years to come. Hell, they're still talking about Benghazi. But everyone who cares about that will be voting straight Pub no matter what. Van may be trying to take a principled position here, but it comes across as just performative. The midterms and 2028 will turn on how people think Trump is doing. Biden's decline will have no impact whatsoever.

Support that number. I doubt you can. Support us not needing a large influx of immigrants. I doubt you can. Support your idea that they are adding huge numbers of criminals to the country. I doubt you can. Support linking immigration and drug trafficking as if they were one and the same. I know you can't.

Tren de Aragua, or Tredy Aqua as trump calls them, are estimated to have less that 7k members, so the numbers of them in the US is exaggerated. No, trump exaggerating...

The SPLC documents that there are more than 1400 extremist groups in the United States. So if the Republicans are so worried about terrorists, why don't the care about the ones already here? Could it be because of who these groups vote for? Oh, and they are white...

It's interesting how many terrorists trump pardoned from January 6th, yet he's very concerned about the brown terrorists.

anecdote that makes an interesting contrast in work ethic...

My beach house needed some repair and remodeling. The contractor I hired had an all white crew. The crew would arrive at 9 am, take 10 minute smoke breaks every half hour or so , take a one hour lunch break and leave at 4 pm... and the crew only worked until noon on Fridays. The job they did was ok with only a few quibbles on my part.

Fast forward to painting my primary residence in Carrboro. I hired an Hispanic contractor who had an all Hispanic crew. The crew would arrive shortly before sunrise and wait patiently until daylight. They took no breaks, took a half hour lunch, and worked until dark. The job they did was the envy of my neighborhood and our house did not need painting for another 12 years ( actually it still looked pretty good 12 years after but the missus insisted:rolleyes: )

Why hasn't unemployment skyrocketed from them taking all the jobs?

Maybe because as evidenced by the Moyor of Springfield and the GM of the Navistar Assembly plant, they are not eating the dogs and cats but rather they are good workers.

All of which the president you helped to elect is ignoring.

Remember he did away with guest worker program, not because it wasn't working, it was, rather because of who signed it into law. He also effectively blocked a republican written, bipartisan bill because he needed immigration as an issue. He doesn't want to solve it, he just loves the power and seeing people suffer.
 
As @donbosco will confirm, my county is 20% Hispanic/Latino and they all work hard as the dickens. In a chicken processing plant, or as laborers for construction, or working in the food service industry, or as field hands tending apple orchards, tree farms., etc. They rent dwellings and pay cold hard ca$h ON TIME every month without fail. Their children attend public schools and are great students, trying hard and causing little to no classroom disruptions (unlike their redneck, white, cohorts). If they cause any trouble with the law - it's because of drinking too much on the weekends when they are not working. But the laws they're usually breaking are not crimes like the right-wing would have you believe. They're not raping women; they're not murdering others, they're not breaking and entering, they're not selling drugs, they're not gang bangers, they're not shooting up neighborhoods, or committing drive by's, they're not mass murdering and shooting up a school... they're not even eating the cats and dogs.

The jobs these hard working folks do are the ones NO white redneck will do. The large majority of lazy, sit on their arse, sucking on the gubment teet, waiting for that check in the mail are WHITE rednecks who vote against their own best interests time and again in State, local and Federal elections over and over.
 
No question the US needs legal immigration due to our falling birthrate. But the US should choose which immigrants we admit into the country through a legal process.

Intentionally leaving the border wide open (while claiming it was secure) for 4 years is no way to accomplish a goal of allowing immigration.

Speaking of getting thumped, Trump lost to Biden by 7 million in the popular vote, Kamala lost to Trump by 2 million. The electoral count was basically the same. By your logic, in 2020 Biden must've been one of the greatest candidates of all time and Trump one of the worst. Right?
