June 14 Military Parade — DC

Military recruitment isn’t an issue. It’s been rising steadily since Covid and the Army has already met its quota for the year.

I understand your reasoning for giving Trump a pass, but this is just dumb.
The Army missed its recruiting quota by over 25% in FY2022 and failed to reach its goal in FY2023, again falling short by 10%. Things picked up in 2024 and 2025 recruiting goals have already been met. Georgetown Security Studies Review.

This parade might inspire youngsters 12-17 to enlist.

Do you think it is a good thing to "inspire" young people to enlist in the nation's armed forces because of a parade?

As I said, things recovered to normal levels post-Covid. Which is to be expected.

You’re trying to portray this silly Trump ego boost as a solution for a problem that doesn’t exist.

So you're saying you like "bandwagon patriotism"? I seem to recall your bone spurs President called the enlisted "losers" so you think a parade is a good draw for young losers?

Yes. Perhaps it's the soldiers marching in tight formations; the military music; the tanks and equipment; the uniforms, etc. Lots of things can inspire young people for their calling in life. We obviously need volunteers for the armed forces in order to maintain a strong national defense.

You need to look no further in Congress and the office of the Vice President to see all the talented people who served in the military (and intelligence services) and who are now in leadership positions.

Hard to say as we've never had a parade like what Trump wants. Honoring his status as a draft dodger

Ram is too lazy to research or doesn't understand the real reasons of reduced enlistment:

Fewer are qualified, including obesity, lack of education

Plentiful jobs under Biden.

Politicization of military, racism, and prejudice.

Post-COVID issues

I don't think a tank parade is going to alter any of the above. The good news is that Trump and Musk's intentional damage to the economy could increase enlistments.

People were obese and lacked education in 2022 and 2025 but recruitment is now up substantially.
Unemployment rate is 4.2% - i.e. full employment.

You left off wokeness and DEI as additional contributing factors for the fall off of recruitment in the recent past.

Ah, right. It’s a good thing we got rid of all that wokeness in 23, 24, and the first few months of 25.

A parade can indeed have an outsized effect on children. It’s a big part of the reason I’ve spent the last 30 years working as one of Santa’s elves.

This military show of strength parade is going to go over like a fart in an elevator (except to the far right) with all that is going on today and yesterday. And probably tomorrow.

Post-COVID restrictions.

So, you admit there's no problem for a wasteful $80M taxpayer-funded "parade solution. "

The Associated Press reported that this increase follows several challenging years for military recruiters, who faced obstacles such as COVID-19 restrictions limiting in-person recruiting and stiff competition from private-sector jobs offering competitive pay and benefits. The AP also reports the U.S. military spent more than $6 billion over the past three years to recruit and retain service members.

So, did you serve in the military? If so, what inspired you to join? If not, why not? I served in the military to get Veterans educational benefits so I could attend college full time.

No. I’ve never implied that I did.
