This triggered a funny memory. I want to say 2016/2017 I was mountain biking at a park in the suburbs (Tanglewood Park outside of Winston) and popped out on the greenway. A very preppy-looking white college aged couple was walking by and I overhead the guy telling his clearly disinterested girlfriend “and that’s why Kendrick Lamar, like, IS hip hop!” Pretty sure it was around the time Humble came out and really solidified his mainstream success.

I kept going and didn’t hear anything before or after that but it did give me a chuckle and stuck with me (obviously, if I’m posting about it on a message board almost a decade later).
