A frustrating vocal minority, perhaps fueled by the usual international forces of chaos, seems unable to cope with the election outcome and making wild conspiracy claims to explain what they cannot accept.

Just like we have the GOP/MAGA crazy thread, seems only fair to have a thread to comment on the left wing nonsense.

The MAGA stolen election conspiracy wasn't some fringe, online-only movement. They raided the Capital over it, wasted countless hours in courtrooms, and spent four years post-election continuing the big lie.

This would seem counterproductive and frankly, pointless.

I know I’m free to ignore this thread but I personally do not see what there is to gain here by platforming stupidity. These left wing conspiracies are just as stupid as the right wing ones we spent the last four years hearing, and I’m pretty sure we all collectively decided that they didn’t need to be platformed on this message board. Not sure what there is to gain, other than the confirmation that there are stupid idiots on the left just like on the right.

We had similar responses when the GOP slouches into the crazy thread started on the IC board four years ago. And at first most of the insanity was coming from nobody loons and Q-Anon whack jobs. But over time it became part of the fabric of MAGA and consumed the GOP. Now we are about to have leaders controlling all the levers of power who adopted variations on the very conspiracy nonsense we were told to ignore back then.

I don’t see this election conspiracy stuff on the left taking hold but knowing it is out there helps recognize future pols who try to rise to power speaking in code to folks who believe this shit. Hopefully, the stupid conspiracy theories sputter out and this thread does the same.

But I remain appalled whenever I come across lingering left wing conspiracy theories about 9/11. I hope not to see that happen w/r/t this election.

All totally fair and valid points.

As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't hurt to be reminded that we have our own group that's rowing with one oar in the water. This can warn us to be wary about who to believe and who to trust in our own party.

They’re insane for sure, but nowhere near as insane as the Venezuelan thing. For one thing Elon Musk is actually alive, unlike Hugo Chavez, and for another thing Elon is an active supporter of Trump who spent millions getting Trump elected including using a blatantly illegal vote buying scheme. Of course it falls apart in that Starlink has nothing to do with voting machines and vote total reporting. If we found out at some point that they did cheat (using a method that would actually work), it wouldn’t surprise me at all. Trump’s been harping on stealing elections for years and he’s usually doing what he accuses his enemies of doing, but there’s no evidence, so unless and until there is, the more likely explanation is that the average voter is a moron.

The difference is none of these people have any power. We don’t even know if they’re real people. It’s not Harris, Walz, Pelosi, Schiff, Jeffries, etc. peddling this crap. It’s not even big Dem donors. It’s random nobodies on Xitter, most of which are probably bots.

The difference is that Trump himself, along with many major surrogates, was pushing the "stolen election" BS before the election even happened, and then they kicked it into overdrive between election day and J6. The GOP crazy is top-down, not bottom-up. I just don't see the parallels at all. Right-wing folks are always trying to draw this false equivalency between fringe elements on both sides, but the difference is that Trump and Co. aren't fringe, he's the freaking former President and President-elect. And there are more people on Twitter claiming that the 2024 results are post hoc proof that the 2020 election was stolen than there are people arguing that Starlink and Musk stole this election.

Yes. Do you really mind the contrast of admitting our issues and that we are keeping the fringe on the fringe? I don't think this is going to ever be a prominent thread and don't think there's much need for it. If nothing else, though, it makes some sort of statement about openness that just feels right to me.

Maybe, but I don’t think what randos post on Xitter is really worth much discussion unless it has traction with verifiable human beings. Xitter is basically the proverbial infinite number of monkeys sitting at an infinite number of typewriters. You can find Tweets that say anything. The important thing is who is saying them, what is their reach, and who believes them?

The difference is that these are minority views.

I have yet to talk to a MAGA who believes that the 2020 election was not stolen.

Not even in the same ballpark of crazy.

It’s not even just a minority with the BlueAnon, I’ve yet to meet a single actual human that believes this stuff. Unlike the far right conspiracy theories where they believe down to the last man, woman, and child.
