Maybe. Or maybe he just realized he couldn't do it anymore. It's a bit like Biden's debate performance. Old guys can go along, gradually slipping but not necessarily noticeably to them. Then something comes along and makes it clear that they need to hang up the keys. Letting JMU hang 70 on you might do that.

It's also possible that he thought about what he would tell the team after the game, and found that he had nothing, and the decision made itself.

As far as I know, there is no rule about interim coaches. If you can convince someone to hire you, you could be the HC I would think.
 
I'm told he quit, effective immediately, in a post-game speech to the players and that they were told not to say anything until official announcement.

Then, later, he sent a text to all the players that he was not quitting and was ready to get back to work.

All of the above is double hearsay.

Y'all down vote me but I say it for a reason. If you want other fans to chime in, make it sports. But if you make it UNC sports as a tag, most of the Duke and other folks here have that tag on ignore

Keeps the board clean as Rock intended, without making him create a separate forum

Well, attaching my d bag hat --- this is par for the course. I have no idea why reasonable, self aware, lifelong unc fans that understand the game of football and, at the least, keep up with the roster expected anything different.

I mean, I always hold out hope that we'll do big things, but I do get uncomfortable watching ppl that have been through the ringer....put themselves back through the ringer.
