How many presidential elections have we had since video sharing was a thing? Four? I suspect that there were plenty of cardboard cutouts -- or something like them -- after Obama's election in 08.

I really don't have any issue at all with the family doing whatever it wants in its own home. If they want to drop down in series and simulate fellatio on the orange turd, it's not really my business.

I just think it's hilarious that almost nobody is going the full jerkoff dance. They all know what it looks like. Ask them and they will deny it, but watch what they do, not what they say.

I don't remember there being a lot of Obama cutouts in 2008, but maybe I wasn't target audience for those.

I do remember there being a lot of Obama t-shirts in 2008 & 2009. A lot of that had to do with Obama being the first Black president, but there was certainly a bit of longer-term celebration around his election.

So people who support Democrats and their policies made up only about 10% of Kamala supporters, and the rest of her voters were just anti-Trump haters? That's good to know! The mind of Trumpers never ceases to amaze.

The only reason I started commenting on this thread was because it was originally discussing how liberals dealt with MAGA family members over the holidays. As for the video in question, I get the impression that everyone in this family voted for Trump, so more power to them if they wish to do this. Have a ball. Having said that, if there were liberal family members there this was likely a big "eff you" to them, no matter how you look at it. And it bears repeating that this wasn't just any dance, but a dance specifically mimicking Trump wacking off a microphone, so yes it is rather odd - dare I say weird? - to dance around a cardboard cutout of Trump while celebrating him doing that, even though they obviously toned it down. At any rate this is a rather trivial topic to be commenting over so I'm not going to discuss it any further, although I do think the original topic of the thread is still very much worth discussing.
 
We went to Thanksgiving at some distant relatives this year. They did a non traditional meal with a sous vide turkey shaped out of tofu and after a few bites it wasn't sitting well. On my way to the bathroom I caught a glance out of the corner of my eye of blow up dolls of Kamala and Walz in their bedroom. I thought that was pretty odd but I'm not judging.

Has nothing to do with Kamala as a political candidate or person. This behavior underscores fundamental personality differences between members of the two parties and how they view politics. Pubs have abandoned the more traditional view of politics that Democrats still hold to and instead have embraced their party leader as a Messianic figure to whom the party serves and idolizes. This is demonstrated in the belief that the party is a vessel to thieve power to be granted to the leader as well as the public displays of support for the leader in everyday life such as wearing his grift apparel or the behavior in the video in question. These public demonstrations also highlight the Pub "sports fan" mentality toward and WWEification of politics. It's idiocracy come to life.

I’m truly fascinated how this upsets many of you. It’s an obvious conservative family, happy about the election, that decided to have some fun by purchasing a cardboard likeness of Trump and doing the Trump dance (which is viral) before they sat down to enjoy a family gathering. That’s it. No Jim Jones kool aide served for desert. Nobody died. A good time was had by all.

No one is upset. Perversely bemused, perhaps, in a fashion similar to, say, watching a softcore S&M video of some poor soul agreeing to, say, eat dog food (wet dog food) at the command of his dominatrix or when they brought out The Gimp in Pulp Fiction, but not upset. Certainly not near as legitimately upset (when bemusement would be the more appropriate response) as some of your crowd gets at drag queen story time and the like. Once again, projection on your part...

Right, but twitter had barely even been invented. Facebook was still relatively small. Social media was in its infancy. So if people had cardboard cutouts, we wouldn't know.

I don't believe anyone is upset.

It's just weird.

I have voted in every election since I was 18, both republican and democrat.

I've been happy when my candidate won, but I've never once thought of dancing with a cardboard cut out of the candidate.

I believe people talking about this goes back to all of the other norms for candidates that trump has destroyed.

In the past, win or lose, I always respected the person that won. Trump is the first one that I do not respect. He's also the first that seems to have a cult following. He's also the first that was a felon, and a grifter. I don't recall any other candidate selling branded bibles, shoes, coins, etc.

It's just weird.
