The sequence from Paige’s shot to Jenkins’ shot is the tournament in a microcosm.

Maybe you're just traumatized by your past message board experiences, but what about any of my interaction here would lead you to believe that I was being disingenuous? I'm just trying to have a discussion.

Agree - but it's just like Laettner's Elite 8 winner against UConn isnt shown as much because the game wasn't that intense until he did that shot. I am sure this one will get shown for a while. I just dont think it will have the longevity of the 92 shot or the NCSU shot. I also think the reactions AFTER those 2 were just as iconic as big shots (Valvano running, Laettner turning with his hands up running down the court).

I cant even tell you what Jenkins did after his shot....

All good, brother. I have no problem with anyone's personal rankings on this kinda thing. It's all subjective anyway. Laettner's shot held the top spot for a long time and nothing lasts forever. I honestly hadn't given Jenkins' shot thought in this context before now.

And earlier this month, in the documentary 4.7 Seconds, Jay Wright discusses that play. It had three options, the last of which was the dish off to Jenkins.

If you can find a clip of the 2009 East Regional Final, you will see that Villanova ran the exact same play except on that one, the point guard, Scottie Reynolds, was able to drive to the basket [which was one of the other two options on "Nova"] for the game winning shot.

Heck the Jenkins shot was so UNfrenzied that Villanova's center took the "mop" from the ballboy to make sure the spot on the court extra clean and dry sicne that is where Archidiacano was going to be dribbling the ball.

Interesting point. Duke also practiced the Laettner shot. Hell, they ran the play against Wake Forest earlier that same year and Grant threw the ball out of bounds.

Well that shot against UConn was just two years before the Kentucky shot. So the Kentucky shot essentially superseded it. Had the Kentucky shot never happened we might still be seeing the UConn shot. But let’s face it: that Kentucky shot was 34 years ago and a substantial percentage of people watching the tournament now didn’t watch the game. They just know the shot. In just one year from today, more time will have passed between March 31, 2027 and that Kentucky shot than the time that had passed between that Kentucky shot and Joe Quigg’s winning free throw to beat Kansas 54-53 in the 1957 national championship.

As for the game in its entirety, however, the miraculous UConn comeback will remain notable.

the all-time nature of the jenkins shot was one of my first thoughts after it happened. it sucked in the moment and then i knew we'd have to relive it over and over again forever 😂

redemption in 2017 softens that blow a LOT.

The guy's an asshole for sure and I don't really care for him - he's got an in-your-face style and ego to match. Having said that, there are times when the enemy of my enemy is my friend, and for this particular game I'm thrilled that he and UConn won. Frankly, though, now that he's done his duty and knocked dook out of the tourney, I hope he loses to Illinois in the next round, or to Arizona or Michigan if he gets by them. I don't want UConn winning another title, and I don't care to see Hurley's smug little face gloating over another title. But I'll say one positive thing about UConn as a whole - they've been dook kryptonite since 1999.

Yeah, at least for me that Jenkins shot doesn't hurt as much given that we did win the title a year later. It would be a lot worse if we hadn't gotten redemption just a year later. But it is tragic that there was no redemption for Paige, Johnson, and James. I wish they could have been a part of that 2017 team.

Agree - I think like the poster above said...if UConn wins it all (doubt it, and sure hope not cause I loathe them and Hurley) then it DEFINITELY has more staying power. I guess the big shots we all see are for the title or teams that went to win the title. Likely also why Laettner 90 wasnt shown cause 2 games later was the 30 point drubbing.

Anyhow go anti-ICE Illinois or Arizona. Though I wont be watching.
