The sentencing hearing for the mass shooter in the Hedingham neighborhood in Raleigh is happening today. Still not a lot known about the shooter, like how he was in school or how he acted begore the shooting.

I am surprised he is not in a Forensic Psychatric ward

The defense for the Raleigh mass shooter is saying acne medication caused him to snap. Even though all the evidence says it was all planned out well beforehand.

I have long thought that if you could limit magazine size and tax the hell out of ammo, you could really cut down on gun violence. Sadly, I don't think restrictions on weapons themselves will have any real impact during my lifetime.
Just read this. I agree. Restrictions on the sale of new weapons in the US would be like standing on the beach at Emerald Isle and trying to empty the Atlantic Ocean with a 16 oz Solo Cup.

RCMP Superintendent Ken Floyd told reporters that investigators had identified a female suspect but would not release a name, and that the shooter’s motive remained unclear. He added that police are still investigating how the victims are connected to the shooter.

“… Mass shootings are extraordinarily rare in Canada, which has much stricter gun laws than the US. According to the Small Arms Research project, there are 121 firearms for every 100 residents in the US, compared with an estimated 35 guns per 100 residents for its northern neighbor.

School shootings of this scale are almost unheard of. In 1989, a gunman murdered 14 women at École Polytechnique in Montréal, in a massacre that prompted a national reckoning about violence against women and led to tighter gun laws.…”

Mark Carney was supposed to be in Halifax today. Cancelled the trip over this.

Conservatives will use this to argue that gun laws don't work, ignoring that this is the first such incident in Canada in 30+ years.

If that's still the party line. They may have moved on to "We could never actually fix it so why even try?"

We haven’t had any of these incidents in the US in quite a while (knock on wood) and our gun laws have not substantially changed.

Now MAGA has metastasized across the border

Look into 764 and the Order of Nine Angles. Basically nihilistic violence cults that formed online and groom teenagers into hurting themselves and/or others. A few of the recent school shootings have been linked to those… I’d bet money this one was. Arguably scarier than MAGA.
