IIRC, somewhere I read that there was a divorce, and two younger siblings went with mom, and this kid stayed with dad.

She and dad separated, she has custody of shooter’s two younger siblings, he had custody the shooter. She apparently has drug use but not clear from what I’ve read whether addiction or poor decision-making. Her father says the marriage failed because dad has anger management issues and is verbally abusive. Still not clear how shooter ended up with dad instead of mom (maybe by choice?).

Lawyers for Colt Gray and his father, Colin Gray, didn’t post bail, leaving them on track to remain in custody through their trials. The younger Gray is accused of carrying out the deadliest school shootingin more than a year. Four people were killed and nine were injured Wednesday at Apalachee High School in Winder, Ga.

Investigators said the older Gray allowed his son, who lived with him, to possess a weapon even though he knew the teenager was a threat to himself and others. The father faces up to 180 years in prison on charges of second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter and child cruelty. He was booked into jail Thursday night, according to jail records.

The younger Gray faces up to life in prison on four felony murder charges. He could face additional charges, investigators said. Judge Currie Mingledorff of Piedmont Circuit Superior Court called the teenager back into the courtroom after his first appearance and reversed his initial statement that the younger Gray could face the death penalty. The judge said that because Gray is under 18, he isn’t eligible for the death penalty. …”

Joppatowne High School was four days into the school year, but this was the shooter’s first day at the school, Sheriff Gahler said. But he was known to the Sheriff’s Office.

“We’ve had more than 10 incidents since 2022 where the suspect was either the victim, witness or the suspect in an incident handled by the Harford County Sheriff’s Office,” Sheriff Gahler said. “This investigation is very active and very early on.” …”
