I’m an indifferent MLB fan. I don’t have a team. I cheer for a couple of teams for odd reasons.

In 2nd grade, my teacher was married to a former UNC football and baseball player. At one time, he held the record for most receptions in a game (16).

In 1st grade, I was in a small group of 7 kids who read at the 4th-8th grade level and did math at a comparable level. No geniuses - just a bunch of UNC brats. Our 1st grade teacher quickly introduced us to the wonderful and brilliant Mrs. Eddy, the Estes Hills Librarian. A great woman and educator.

There were 1-3 other kids similar in the other two first grade classes (Estes Hills had 3 classes per grade).

The 1st and 2nd grade teachers suggested that we kids be put in one classroom to benefit the teacher, us who weren’t geniuses but were well above grade level, and the bulk of the class.

Mildred Mooneyham was the Principal and she disagreed. We were randomly assigned to classes. I was alone in Mrs. Carr’s class. The year before, her 2nd grade class was next to my 1st grade class; so, she knew my great 1st grade teacher, Mrs. Walters.

Oh, yeah…..Picture a bad 1960’s school principal…..Mildred Mooneyham wrote the book, made the model, then broke it.

So, my 2nd grade teacher, the wonderful and lovely Linda Carr (she was hot) had me (not a genius and doing math at 4th-6th grade level and reading at least Huck Finn, Beowulf, and similar). Plus, she had 28 “normal” kids. And, ME. She did send me to the library OFTEN.

Then, she had her husband come and play catch with me 2-3 times a week when she was teaching 28 2nd graders how to read..

Her only request was that I cheer for the Mets because Charlie Carr was in the Mets farm system. Here I am, a snot-nosed 7 or 8 year-old playing catch with a Tar Heel legend and professional baseball player….and, did I mention Mrs. Carr was hot? I’d have cheered for ncsulol if she’d asked.

That was 1969 and the Miracle Mets. So, I’ve been a Mets fan ever since.

Growing up in North Carolina I was expected to be an Atlanta Braves and a Washington Redskins fan.

Hated both teams. Probably because I was expected to like them. North Carolina had nothing to do with DC or Atlanta.

Was a Minnesota Vikings fan - fans with Vikings helmets, Purple People Eaters Defense????? Who else was an 8 year-old going to cheer for?

I wasn’t pulling for Pete Rose.

So, Dodgers fan.
Fuck the Dodgers.

Brutally bad base running with Springer left on deck. Barger has to be aware of the situation and where the outfield is playing. He had no business being that far off second because he wasn't being forced to go to third if the ball had dropped instead of being caught.
Exactly. Barger fucked up big time. He had to know Hernandez was playing shallow for a play at the plate and with Gimenéz at bat who is simply NOT going to hit a ball over the left fielder's head. Sure, you play a fly ball to the outfield half-way when on base... UNLESS you're on 2nd base and the fly ball is hit to shallow left field with the LFielder coming in toward 2nd base - surely to make the catch! He should have only been a few steps off the 2nd base bag once he turned and saw where the ball was and where Hernandez was.

Terrible base-running... BUT who knows what Springer does next? Woulda, coulda, shoulda... welcome to game 7 and Godzilla on the mound.

Will go down as one of the biggest WS "boners" if Jays lose tonight...

Toronto was extremely unlucky last night. That bonehead base-running mistake by Barger would never have happened if the dang ball hadn't gotten stuck in LF... rule double instead of an RBI double. That should have been a run in with nobody out. 3-2.
All that said, the next two hitters hit weak pop-ups/fly-outs. So then it's still 3-2; two outs and Barger is still at 2nd.
What would Springer do? Who knows, but he did have 2 hits and an RBI already last night, so....

But let's not throw Barger too far under the bus. He had 2 hits himself and scored the only run for the Jays... so he pulled his weight last night before the base-running booboo.

My hope is Toronto got their bad luck out of the way with that BS ground rule double.
I say the baseball Gods need to cast some dark clouds on LA tonight...

He seemed to think it was ball four based on Vlad Jr's reaction to the pitch. Was clearly a strike, imo.
I
Why was he thinking(Springer) it was a ball 4 pitch ? He should have been on his horse the ENTIRE way to 2nd base . .
that out was yet another gift to the LAD.

But the Dodgers are going to get a shot at Toronto’s bullpen before this one is over. Max can’t go too much longer.
