Winning a game while -18 in turnovers. On the road
 
that was amazing. the pacers just kept whittling away. when SGA missed the jumper it felt inevitable and sure enough it was.
 
the pacers bench outplayed the thunder bench and holmgren was a no-show. okc probably can't count on SGA going for 38 every game.

i had my doubts before last night but indiana absolutely has a path to winning this thing.

Can't believe how many I heard calling for a sweep

Indy's style of play just isn't something most teams have in them and you can throw those regular season defensive metrics out the window

Still think OKC finds a way but we should be in for another fun series

And you would think this would’ve endeared him to me by now. What he’s done is astonishing.

But over the course of these playoffs I’ve gone from casually rooting for him as an underdog, to “here’s my wallet, just take it and please go away…”
 
SGA had 2 FTs at the start of the 4Q. Chatter about his diving has been going around. Sometimes the refs respond to that with a one game reprieve. I bet he shoots 16-20 FTs in G2

I wish someone would start a sports betting thread and keep the gambling chatter off the threads about what’s happening on the floor (or field.)

I understand people are going to bet on sports no matter what and it makes sense to legalize it rather that keeping it underground. But I despise how gambling discussions have infiltrated all aspects of sports programming, and not because it’s “news” but because sports media is now so dependent on gambling sponsorships.

That’s cool and agree completely on its own thread. But where do we draw the line? When the Heels play TCU, no discussion of who is favored as far as point spread? That’s gambling rhetoric. ESPN has been referencing point spreads as far back as I can remember. This isn’t aimed at you personally so please don’t take it that way. Just think that sports and betting are so intertwined that the conversations are going to overlap. My apologies for posting the link to the $1M bets on the NBA finals. Didn’t know where else to post it. Will create a sports betting thread. And I also want to add that I think sports betting adds a lot of bad elements to sports. People harassing players who don’t perform or people trying to rig games or pay off players. And yes the ESPN ticker is all sports betting but it has been showing point spreads for some time now. That’s my two cents. Apologies for taking the thread off course.
 
It wasn’t my intention to direct that comment toward you, I shouldn’t have quoted your post…it was a more general statement. I realize point spreads and who is favored is always going to be part of sports discussions. But now game broadcasts discuss potential parlays and entire sports networks are devoted to gambling talk. It’s almost as if gambling is a sport itself. I agree that sports gambling has a deleterious effect on sports, but that horse is out of the barn.
 
Agree 100%. Think ESPN has gone maybe a little far. I get the ESPN Bet show to some degree but their ticker now feels like a betting advertisement sometimes ha. Think it wouldn’t look as bad if ESPN didn’t have their own betting app. Sure betting apps have commercials but ESPN is a sports network. Imagine there is a conflict of interest there somewhere 😉
 
I get that perspective and have thought it’s pretty funny how Stern was so anti-gambling but Silver now has cozied up to that world. And I do think there’s a big national problem brewing, with young men getting into big trouble and debt. Access is just too easy and most people are terrible sports gamblers (and terrible gamblers period). We’ll be hearing a lot more about this in the coming years.

But for the context of this board, there’s barely any activity on this NBA thread as it is. And that’s during a pretty amazing playoffs, much less the regular season. So if anyone wants to make a gambling thread, cool. I’m sure I’d post on it. But there will still be some gambling talk sprinkled in here regardless. Not only is that crossover inevitable but there’s just not really enough traffic here to make such a nuanced distinction.

I created a sports gambling thread. Hopefully it’s a positive. Think sports gambling can be fun if done responsibly, like most vices 😉

True. I've really enjoyed the games I've watched, other than the game one OKC lose (great game, just not what I wanted). I'm just such a casual fan, so I forget about this thread.
 
ZZL NBA threads were always fairly active too. Also pretty much non-existent within the last several years

The post-Lebron and GSW dynasty runs probably haven't helped much with the casual fans

RE: gambling - I always get a kick when I happen to catch ESPN before a game or something and they have a random person on there giving picks. What a time
