Does anyone else feel like they are living in a different country now that Trump has won? This just doesn’t feel like the USA anymore. I feel like a stranger in a new world.

Yep. I will not be flying any U.S. flag for the next 4 ... 8 ... 12 ... 20 years. I feel like I'm an exile in the country I've lived in all my life.

This country enslaved other human beings up until 1865. Civil rights were granted less than 100 years ago in 1964. Women’s suffrage was only granted in 1920 (and the fight to secure those rights started in 1848).

The truth is our country has never been “great” because we continually must fight to secure equal rights for every citizen.

This is a painful moment in our nation’s history but it’s only one of many. It’s why we have to maintain a headstrong and steadfast spirit to endure what’s ahead and work to recover and fight back. Freedom is always teetering on the edge of a knife.

Hell yeah. I always fly an American Flag at my home. But mine came down yesterday with my Harris flag. The way I feel... I can't bring myself to raise it.
Like I said this just doesn’t feel like America anymore. The sad thing is though this has always been America.

Americans (and humans in general, really) are short-sighted and selfish. I don't think it's unique to Americans - only caring about the near future and yourself and your loved ones is how we've evolved as a species.

Turns out that 2016-2020 is just too far in the rearview for Americans. They forgot how nuts everything was. They went and voted en masse, basically, against the current administration because of inflation and the border. 75% in exit polling said the country was heading in the wrong direction. That's a huge %. Doesn't matter if they're right or not - voters vote largely on feel/perception/vibes.

In 2026 and 2028, if we're still voting by then, Americans very well may not like how a MAGA-controlled federal government works. Those may be election cycles that are favorable to Democrats. Again, maybe it won't matter anymore by then.

Anyway, this was all to say that this is the same old America it's always been. We were all a little foolhardy to expect it'd change.

As someone mentioned earlier I will not be flying any American flags the next 4 years. I am ashamed of my country right now.
You could be like the 3 folks who live close to me and have flown the US flag upside down for the last 4 years (don’t do that).
