Perhaps a coincidence, but made me think of this thread…

Under Sisi’s command as defense minister, Egyptian security forces carried out the the Rabaa massacre and other mass killings of civilian protesters. His 2014 election was marred by repression of his political opponents.

At a 2019 G-7 summit, Trump called Sisi “my favorite dictator.”“

OMG. I want the constitution to be amended with things like no gerrymandering, but I might be willing to settle for "no gratuitous attacks on the mainstream media." I am so fucking tired of that phrase and I am certain I'm not the only one. I think we are all tired of this constant pivoting back to the dumbest conspiracy theory of them all. Well, one of them. It's hard to top QAnon.

How would you legislate against gerrymandering? All districts are gerrymandered to a point. That is a bit like obscenity.

Run a simulation with 1,000 (or 10,000, or 100,000) possible districting scenarios for each state. Have the computer pair those down to the most logical result. Treat it like weather prediction.

I'm not sure why you would be expecting a well-developed theory from "things like no gerrymandering" in an offhand comment.

There are a variety of ways of doing no gerrymandering. One is a process. A second is multi-member districts. But it's hard to specify zero gerrymandering when gerrymandering is built into the constitution via state boundaries.

I would lean toward the process definition itself. Admittedly the process would be a little bit granular for a constitution, but you could write something like, "districts shall be drawn according to a process set by Congress with the following properties:"

Thing is, there's no perfect solution but there are solutions better than what we have. It's like, I'm not exactly sure who should be our football coach and it's probably folly to attempt to specify the exact attributes for a coach we want, but anything is better than BB.
