Post how much you paid for eggs today

18 pack (1 1/2 dozen) extra large eggs at Harris Teeter was $6.49 today. That extrapolates to $4.33 per dozen.

I paid $6.19 for a dozen cage-free eggs at Target. But I got them because the last time I was in Publix (last week), the egg section was completely picked over. I figured I should get 'em when I see 'em.

And count me in with the folks who are especially blown away by the prices for frozen fries and tater tots. A bag of Ore-Ida is $7.99 at Harris Teeter. Seriously?

Btw, how soon will chicken wings and other chicken product prices follow?

It was a family-size box, but still. I pointed it out to my wife, and people from the next aisle heard me and came over with a response that matched yours.
That's odd. A larger size box (560g vs 510g for US version) is $7.99 here. That's $5.49 in US dollars. And that's not the Costco price, which I am sure is lower.

Publix is ripping you off.

I’ve switched to golden egret eggs. Yeah, they’re still a bit more expensive than grade A jumbo chicken eggs, but the price is relatively stable and they’re a better fit for my artisanal bagel.
<rant>artisanal, another over used marketing word with no meaning left.</rant>

You should look up the requirements to be cage free.

My cousin is a Chicken scientist for one of the major chicken producers. It's interesting the stuff he tells me. According to him, most of these things are simply marketing.

“Free range” just means “outdoor access” or “access to the outdoors”. That can mean the chicken can stick its head through a hole into the great outdoors. Or, it has 2 square feet of a concrete slab.

“Cage-free” just means they aren’t in cages. It doesn’t mean the chickens are roaming in a pasture. There might be thousands in a barn with no access to outside.

“Pasture-raised” - good luck with that meaning the chickens are running around a pasture.

I get my eggs from a woman in Eli Whitney. She raises hogs and chickens. Her animals have huge areas to roam and graze. The eggs and pork are great! And, expensive compared to a lot of grocery store items. The eggs are only $7/dozen.

Exactly. So much marketing and illusion to something more than is really happening.
