We can thank the Republican Party who decided 60 years ago that the ends justified the means. They cut every corner and distorted their principles to gain every possible edge. They finally raised a generation without principles and, at best, situational ethics, who took the party from them.

A tip of the hat to the press who should have kept them honest.

This next administration is going to be made up of a bunch of crazy people. If or when they deport all the illegal immigrants, I wonder who they believe will work all those jobs that no American wants.

When the dust settles from this I don’t think we’ll find that a bunch of people left the country. We’ll find that a bunch of people separated themselves from former friends/family and that younger generations walked away from religion in increasing numbers.

unbelievable! We’re a racist terrible country. Im leaving
Obviously a post out of frustration and disbelief. I saw this sentiment many times on the board as the results came in last night. It is understandable as we all know MAGA, saw the MSG fiasco and know what Trump says and stands for. But that is not how Trump won and why there was a red wave. MAGA was going to vote MAGA no matter what. But why did he win in reality with swing voters? Why did more flip to Trump than vice versa? In my order and most likely correct.

1) Inflation - Dems talked the overall economy, GDP and stock market. But both Biden and Harris failed in messaging on this issue. This was far more important to average voters than abortion.

2) Immigration - Biden ignored the issue for far too long. Harris was designated as a leader on the issue. She was absent. Yes the bi-partisan bill would have been a major breakthrough. Just as Trump killed it for political gain, the Admin. (or Dems) did the same by waiting too long to present a bill, address the issue, or even acknowledge it They also pretended it was a non-issue all the way to election, claiming the border is secure. They got hammered on this.

3) Racial? Yes for MAGA but they voted exactly the same. Harris underperformed Biden by a big margin with both Blacks and Latinos (and even with many whites that voted Biden last time.) Did she lose some of the black vote because black men would not vote for a woman, even if black? Sure, but she lost far more due to the above.

4) Biden being selfish and running a second term in diminished capacity. Forced a last minute change to Harris, which gave all the negatives of the Biden Admin in 1 and 2 above with his #2 running. Biden would have lost if he was same as four years ago. And Harris was more of the same. She tried to present new policies. But her answer about doing anything different than Biden, no I can't think of anything, was a disaster. Even if voters did not see that, it was the perception of average voter anyway, more of the same.

5) Abortion - Yes this was a win for Harris. But she and many Dems here put far too much emphasis on it. I can't even count the number of posts here claiming this was the huge issue that would lead to a landslide victory. It was not a single issue vote that would put her over the top, and was far less important (to most voters) than the issues that carried Trump (1 and 2 above).

So at the end of the day, Trump lost in 2020 because Covid happened on his watch. Biden/Harris lost in 2024 because inflation happened on their watch. Immigration has been a long time issue, but people are fed up, and Biden/Harris ignored it and dismissed it for far too long, and even falsely stated all four years (Harris up until the final weeks) that the border is secure.

So the Dem knee-jerk reaction of racism, and misogyny (to a lesser extent) will never turn things around, and is just excuse making. They will continue to pay the price if that is the takeaway. They lost far more Latino and AA votes, than they gained on abortion issue, and more never Trumpers like me.

I think they will do the math and figure out it is more profitable to imprison them and turn them into incarcerated cheap labor than deport. Basically the Louisiana prison system on a national scale.

Too bad those people didn’t walk to their nearest polling station.

Maybe I’m mentally exhausted or just stupid, but I don’t even know what you’re trying to say.

They may not deport anyone. We have no idea which ones of all the campaign promises they actually care about.

I suspect it will be more about making the rich richer.

I wish any of this was true. You give much too much credit and lipstick to the pig. He won because of sexism (Americans are not willing to vote for a woman for president) and I think racism to some extent. The backlash against Obama’s presidency is still there.

Not sure he did with the black vote. 100% the Hispanic.
Watching Hispanics flip 30% to Trump was eye-opening. Who would've thought that calling immigrants trash would actually play with immigrants as long as you call them "illegals", so those voting legally don't look in the mirror and say "Who me?".

Should be a shot across the bow to Democrats and how they message border policy moving forward.

Depends on Stephen Miller's influence vs Elon's. Though I suspect Trump has enough attention for both.

Independents put Trump in office the same folks that voted Obama twice. Racism is copium.

CNN’s Chris Wallace, who earlier in the evening indicated that Harris needed “a miracle” to pull out a victory against Trump given the exit polls, was struggling to comprehend how the former president won over so many independents.

“I’m trying to figure out why,” Wallace said, noting that he was at “’a loss as to how you would explain” it.

There is no logical explanation other than the two physical ways in which Harris differs from Biden and Trump.
