When the dust settles from this I don’t think we’ll find that a bunch of people left the country. We’ll find that a bunch of people separated themselves from former friends/family and that younger generations walked away from religion in increasing numbers.
The latter already happened. The former will happen.

Racism is copium.
The racism is well established in the data. Also, a shocking number of people just want a daddy, or to hurt others with impunity, without reflecting on why they want to hurt others (secret - it’s insecurity).

We can thank the Republican Party who decided 60 years ago that the ends justified the means. They cut every corner and distorted their principles to gain every possible edge. They finally raised a generation without principles and, at best, situational ethics, who took the party from them.

A tip of the hat to the press who should have kept them honest.
Good point about the press. They did not do their job on this one. The more reputable sources by and large tried to treat each side evenly, and failed to delve with any significance into damaging Trump stories. When most certainly both sides were not equitable, either morally or capability wise. They absolutely abdicated their responsibility that they have espoused since the very beginning of our grand experiment.

That’s another group that’s either about to experience the “find out” part, or Ultimately, I think the I-boside-for-my-integrity journalists and talking heads will just genuflect.

To put it in third grade terms so that the rest of the US population can understand - they prefer to blow up every ship around them rather than raise all ships to the same level

The lack of understanding is appalling. The lack of empathy is appalling. The whole idea, as I see it, is to make our society successful. And to do that you need to ensure that its constituents are as successful as possible. And to do that the people need to reach their potential. And to do that they need to be healthy, safe, educated, and have opportunities. It’s that simple. Every thing needs to revolve around that.

And yet Here we are. Where get yours and division and religion consume the day. We have a failed society and it will take generations to repair if at all. I dont see a way out of this mess with any sustainability. It’s akin to thinking a cat can type out a Shakespearean play given an eternity of randomness. It just won’t happen

And that’s why I’m sad.

I'm 41 years old - it's very sobering to realize with absolute certainty that we will at least have a judiciary locked in for the rest of my lifetime that is in opposition to the advancement of human and civil rights.

I had some hope that I would live to see America make real progress. Very disappointed and just sad about the state of our citizens.

Agree. I think most Americans, irrespective of who they vote for, will only see societal collapse for the remainder of their lives.

The latter already happened. The former will happen.
Everything I’ve seen this morning tells me the latter will only accelerate. It’s been successfully established that Trump = Christianity for countless young people.

Again, Trump gained ground in large percentages with African Americans and Latinos. That was a big reason why he won. How is that an indication of racism deciding the election?

As for "how can latinos/Hispanics support Trump when he attacks illegal immigrants and says they are poisoning the blood of Americans? Well, first of all, only legal immigrants can vote. They or their parents went through years of processing, waiting, mindless beaurocracy, and did it the legal way. They don't appreciate others jumping straight to the front of the line, just crossing the border and staying indefinitely, just like most Americans. Many also escaped leftist countries, and Trump's hyberbole or not about Marxist Commie Dems, they do fear a movement to the left and closer to what they escaped (even though Trump was the authoritarian candidate.)

Dems have taken the black and minority votes for granted for far too long. The claim of racism to explain every negative outcome for Dems does not help. Biden saying, "if you are Black and vote Republican, you aren't really black." So dumb and obviously showing the view that AA are mindless pawns and in the pockets of Dems. So incredibly stupid.

This, and the fact that AA and Hispanics are also anti-abortion, anti-gay, have strong misogynistic tendencies, and so on. Think about it... Trump and the Pubs ran on all those things... Kamala and the Dems also ran on those things but in the opposite direction.

However, the racism component is still there in America and it is indeed a large reason why Trump won. Both things can be true.

Of course Center, we've all known that a large percentage of the hardcore MAGA party supporters are, at their core; racist, white nationalist and support christo-fascism. But that is not nearly enough to carry Trump over the finish line in any race.

I suspect the following fact is still true, the only demographic Trump has ever won is the "uneducated white male." He may have also picked up and won the "uneducated white female" this time, he has always been close there.

But I assume he still lost all other groups, just by less than before.

Obviously a post out of frustration and disbelief. I saw this sentiment many times on the board as the results came in last night. It is understandable as we all know MAGA, saw the MSG fiasco and know what Trump says and stands for. But that is not how Trump won and why there was a red wave. MAGA was going to vote MAGA no matter what. But why did he win in reality with swing voters? Why did more flip to Trump than vice versa? In my order and most likely correct.

1) Inflation - Dems talked the overall economy, GDP and stock market. But both Biden and Harris failed in messaging on this issue. This was far more important to average voters than abortion.
How do you message to people who refuse to look at the world? Inflation is done. It's gone. There is nothing more that can be done about it. It wasn't caused by policy. It wasn't Joe Biden's fault in any way. Look at what Kamala said -- she would go after price gouging. Dumb idea, but what is the alternative?

The problem is that conservatives hear empty promises and they believe them -- the exact same way they've been believing the promises from the preachers to whom they send their life savings. And liberals do not just roll over for "I can fix it, trust me."

There are just more of them now.

It's not just that. It's more about the reality skew. The press kept reporting that Americans view the economy negatively. They should have been reporting on how well the economy is doing. We have the best economy in the world right now, and somehow people voted for the arsonist because they do not understand.

1) Inflation - Dems talked the overall economy, GDP and stock market. But both Biden and Harris failed in messaging on this issue. This was far more important to average voters than abortion.

2) Immigration - Biden ignored the issue for far too long. Harris was designated as a leader on the issue. She was absent. Yes the bi-partisan bill would have been a major breakthrough. Just as Trump killed it for political gain, the Admin. (or Dems) did the same by waiting too long to present a bill, address the issue, or even acknowledge it They also pretended it was a non-issue all the way to election, claiming the border is secure. They got hammered on this.

3) Racial? Yes for MAGA but they voted exactly the same. Harris underperformed Biden by a big margin with both Blacks and Latinos (and even with many whites that voted Biden last time.) Did she lose some of the black vote because black men would not vote for a woman, even if black? Sure, but she lost far more due to the above.

4) Biden being selfish and running a second term in diminished capacity. Forced a last minute change to Harris, which gave all the negatives of the Biden Admin in 1 and 2 above with his #2 running. Biden would have lost if he was same as four years ago. And Harris was more of the same. She tried to present new policies. But her answer about doing anything different than Biden, no I can't think of anything, was a disaster. Even if voters did not see that, it was the perception of average voter anyway, more of the same.

5) Abortion - Yes this was a win for Harris. But she and many Dems here put far too much emphasis on it. I can't even count the number of posts here claiming this was the huge issue that would lead to a landslide victory. It was not a single issue vote that would put her over the top, and was far less important (to most voters) than the issues that carried Trump (1 and 2 above).

So at the end of the day, Trump lost in 2020 because Covid happened on his watch. Biden/Harris lost in 2024 because inflation happened on their watch. Immigration has been a long time issue, but people are fed up, and Biden/Harris ignored it and dismissed it for far too long, and even falsely stated all four years (Harris up until the final weeks) that the border is secure.

So the Dem knee-jerk reaction of racism, and misogyny (to a lesser extent) will never turn things around, and is just excuse making. They will continue to pay the price if that is the takeaway. They lost far more Latino and AA votes, than they gained on abortion issue, and more never Trumpers like me.
True.

The dems had better take a long hard look at what got us here and adjust their marketing strategy.

That pile of shit maga cult leader should have never been competitive, much less win.

Just shows how broken this country is.

Which is really a bad thing.

We need to talk and understand each other and where this country is.

Latinos, yes. But I thought someone posted an exit poll that showed Black men voted for her in similar numbers to Biden.

It was close. Democrats have been steadily losing black men over the last few presidential elections but it's not like it was a sea change like Latino men. Harris did slightly reverse the trend of losing black women.

I think in some states the trend of losing black men was more pronounced like Wisconsin and maybe North Carolina.
