We'll see. I think he has some sway with Trump.
What does Trump have to do with it? It was states who got Roe overturned and it would be states here. Just pass a statute doing something to gay marriage; people will sue; onto the Supreme Court.

I think the state agitators will have a hard time getting traction if Trump isn't supportive. But we'll see.

That's a lot of speculation here. First, we have to assume that Trump gives a fuck about Scott Bessent. No, sorry, first we have to assume that he remembers his Treasury Secretary's name. Then, if he has a fucking clue who Bessent is, we have to assume that he cares about Bessent's sexuality, which would be the first time Trump has ever given a fuck about that in his life. Then we have to assume that, even if he cares, he would take a public stance on it, and we'd also have to assume Bessent was last in his ear since Trump is very receptive to bullshit ideas, shall we say. And then we have to assume that state legislatures would decline to press the issue just because Trump doesn't full-throatedly endorse, when those same legislators were willing to break with Trump publicly during the campaign and complain he wasn't pro-life enough. And we have to assume **all** the states will follow that path, because it only takes one.

I mean, maybe you're right. But my money is on Obegefell falling.

Man, I simply cannot advocate enough for the seasonal flu vaccine. Both my wife and our 2-year-old have had influenza A this week (both are vaxxed), and I've definitely been exposed to it, and haven't had a single symptom after 9 days of it being in our household.
My wife and I have been getting the flu vaccine for years. About 6 years ago I caught the flu anyway. I only felt really bad for maybe a day and a half. So the shot definitely helped. I was in bed on the day I really felt bad. I was looking at the CBS News App. The title of an article said the flu vaccine that year was the least effective one in several years. I dropped my phone and said, “No shit.” Still, I’m glad I got the shot.

What does it suggest to you when the only way you seem to support the current administration is to hope they are lying? You're doing that with some regularity.
I don't support all of the current administration's policies but I am warming to it based on some of their policies. I do think some of the criticism towards the administration is overblown and a bit ridiculous.

My question was specifically asking him if he really believes that HHS is no longer issuing grants or if he believes that HHS never allows research on differences based on ethnicity? It shocks me that anyone would think that so I'm clarifying its not some sort of sarcasm or embellishment.

I didn't think it was either. I thought it was just you being you. My criticism stands. The best support you've offered is "Maybe he's lying."

It's why the Respect for a marriage act was such a massive win.

It's not pointless at all, even though Lady G tried to say so

What specific policies by the administration are you "warming to?"

Lower spending. The willingness to hold bureaucrats accountable for wasting tax payer funds. The willingness to look at new scientific information and not dismiss it out of hand.

I honestly think if Trump can pull off a significant culling of the bureaucracy without significantly curtailing services, he could be FDR level. But he's Trump so its more likely he blows it and he goes GWB level. But I'm hoping.

Might not be what you meant to say but it's the only plausible thing you've said. We know he does that. Any of his other claims are highly suspect because of that. Those are ill defined and there is , so far, no evidence that they are working or needed. There is substantial evidence that the entire world has been disrupted and trust us far less for no obvious benefit.

I don't like him bullying smaller countries with tariffs or military threats but there are some pretty obvious short term benefits. That is what makes it scary. Trump gets some wins so he keeps doing it but long term it damages our reputation.

What are those benefits? Don't include fulfilling some MAGAt's masturbatory fantasy. Make it something measurable. No,not the fantasy.

Panama stops cooperation with China's belt and road program. Canada and Mexico increasing their border security. More military spending and commitments to move some chip manufacturing to the US from Taiwan. Columbia taking back its migrants.

Back that thing up. Any of them. Many of those were already happening like the border security and the Colombians going back. Hell, Mexico had planned on sending more troops than Donnie Bonespur asked for. Iirc, Trump is wasting a whole lot of money in who he's choosing to fly people back.

Mexico & Canada made those commitments before Trump's circus came to town.
I refer you to the chips and science act of 2022.
The United States was flying illegals to Colombia before Trump's circus came to town.
Why would you want MORE military spending while simultaneously opposing us sending help to Ukraine? These kinda things are why nobody takes you trumplicans seriously. You just talk to hear yourselves talk.

I don't think that is correct. Columbia refused to let two planes carrying migrants land until Trump made his tariff threat.
