Probably swimming against the tide here, but can I make a plea to not just ignore posters?

Ds need to do some soul searching because the message just isn't getting across. Like it or not, the country is just not what we want it to be and no amount of ignorance will make it so. It would behoove us to listen. That doesn't mean agree. It doesn't mean change. It doesn't mean like. It just means listen. Fight the urge to "correct" or argue and just try to understand at core what is motivating them.

Yes, there are many that will be trolling and looking for a reaction. A super ignore is exactly that reaction - oh look at the snowflake libs that can't handle anything that doesn't fit their worldview! Don't give it to them. You don't have to click on their thread. And if you do, you don't have to reply. And if you are going to ignore someone, you don't have to announce it to try to antagonize them.

We are not going to better understand each other by ignoring each other. And you shouldn't expect Rs to listen to you if you won't listen to Rs. It's tough work. Sometimes it's REALLY tough work. I think a lot of Rs would be surprised and maybe even disarmed to actually have a liberal listen to them earnestly. Not argue or debate, but listen. You can't browbeat or insult people into agreeing with you.

Anyway, that's me coping in real time. Super ignore me if you like ;).
 
I don’t think the problem is a lack of understanding. Two sides have radically different values. We aren’t going to talk it out. The only reason we don’t all go our separate ways is that the logistics of that are impossible.

The best description of what is coming I’ve seen is that people on the other side of the divide will be treated like coworkers, not friends.

Fair point. As Ghandi said (paraphrasing), education is the most important tool we have for making lasting change in the world, and education/understanding comes with engagement. And as you suggest, sometimes just being listened to goes a long way. 50% of us aren't going away, no matter which "side" you may find yourself.

In fairness to us though, many of us are spent or are going crazy with constantly having to deal with family members and friends who do not or will not believe reality in the face of hard evidence or cold facts, who consistently measure similar things with double standards, and who have become increasingly brainwashed - going on 10 years or 29 years now, depending on whether or not you measure it by Fox news or by Trump's entrance into government.

And we are mentally and physically exhausted from it.

Folks like riverhell are not here for understanding and debate.
 
The election provided enough material for Democrats to self-reflect. I have no interest in entertaining trolls.

That's akin to "let's travel to middle America to understand why Trump was so popular", when it's really just based on petty grievance and selfishness with a large side of misogyny.

The lesson, I feel, is more that Democrats are too focused on hyper-idealism and social equality/exceptionalism against a backdrop of an electorate who cares very little for such topics and certainly won't vote on them. And then you introduce female candidates summarily rejected not once, but twice. Not even women care to protect their own bodily rights. That's a damning indictment on how Democrats positioned their message this cycle.

Either get comfortable with rolling in the mud or get used to losing.

I respectfully disagree with you. This post is not worthy of a standard ignore, much less the super variety.

I'm tired of "listening". I've tried to understand them. I've tried not to antagonize them. And the result is ... a second term of the worst president in U.S. history and plenty of lost sleep. Fuck them. I want to sleep.
 
I have been doing a lot of work in eastern NC. Most people I talked with down there are Trump supporters. Their feedback was largely on the economy and the border. They see Kamala as part of the problem and not the solution.

Remember that time when a bunch of people went on fact finding missions to liberal enclaves in order to better understand them?

Republicans have their political victories. They aren’t entitled to time from the people they hate. Given how excited they are about how many Trump supporters there are they shouldn’t have too much difficulty finding friends that share their political views.

I have no plans to ignore anyone. I also have no plans to be polite or patient with anyone who just wants to gloat. If they want to discuss positions, I'm willing to both talk and present as middle of the road evidence as I can find. I expect them to do the same. I don't care to hear any shit some guy on the internet said unless he has some serious credentials other than his number of followers. Letting evidence slide is much of how we got here. Concealment of such by the press is a lot of the rest.

I have used super ignore three times today. This is the first time I have ever used it.

I agree that announcing to the person that you used that feature is childish and gives them the attention they crave.

As for better understanding of each other, I don’t ignore conservatives who come to have actual dialog. But you can’t have dialog with a troll. Trying to do so is not only pointless but often derails threads which is unfair to others on the board.
