It did end up being a win-win but only because we had someone like @Rock with the know how and willingness to create this community for us to migrate to. The IC PTB are cowards.

We'll need to pay attention. This is the third spinoff I've been part of. Both BoB and Heel Talk started off as vibrant and fresh. To a large part, BoB was too uncensored and the fairly overt misogyny ran off all the women posters over the course of a few years. Then most of the conservatives left and it became stale. Heel Talk is going a lot the same way. Too many people with variations of the same opinions. You can look at a name and can almost predict the style of the post. The posters are a lot more thoughtful as a group than BoB and a little more diverse but it could use some fresher ideas.

Both boards have suffered from engrained antagonisms where the whos matter more than the whats.

No idea about IC ZZL, but I’ve been to the free basketball board once or twice around the time of our first exhibition games. Same old, same old it seemed to me. Haven’t been back there for several weeks. Imma pop over and check it out.

Note: I hardly ever went to ZZL in the over 20 years I was on IC. And I only started visiting the IC ZZLP about 2 or 3 months before they caved in. I noticed Rock seemed to be a cool cat, and when he started this site, it was an easy shift.

Not for me but I will answer. While the premium boards are often awful, there actually is a ton of good information on both of them, especially regarding injuries, recruiting and other stuff. I really enjoy the golf thread on ZZL. I have season Tix for football and basketball and I have invited quite a few ICers over the years to join me. Including more than once some of my harshest critics. Funny what happens when people are face to face. For $100 a year, plenty worth it.

Yup, this is the answer. I'm still subscribed to the premium boards for this reason. Not for the back and forth and discussion so much as the information about the teams.

I didn’t realize all the conservatives left BoB. I thought it devolved into just Gern and Burly talking to each other.

Gern, Burly and company mostly left a couple of years ago. There are the occasional drive by posters. Probably more since the election but their security certificate hasn't been updated so I haven't been there to see.

This board is way more open and comfortable to opposing fans as well. We simply can ignore UNC sports threads and it keeps it open. That's why you have folks from Duke and Kansas and other schools here without issue

I like the little pieces the paid staff do-the videos mostly. Now maybe I could get most of it on the free Board , but I dont mind chipping in a few bucks a month to pay the staff I really like mcttp and couple others that aggregate tons of data. I like to read a couple of Big Rams discussion on the "inside politics' of the Rams Club. I know who to just ignore

One can discuss the needs or shortcomings of the team without it always devolving into fire the coach, wel have no NIL to compete, and we are on the trajectory to obscurity like Indiana after Knight retired.

Oh God yes about the Indiana thing, I still laugh at that. Indiana hasn't been to a Final Four in twenty years and hasn't been noteworthy since. UNC won a national title just seven years ago and was in a Final Four and the national title game just a couple of years ago. The notion that "we're going the way of Indiana and have become irrelevant nationally" is utterly absurd, but there are posters on the IC free board who keep saying it occasionally. LOL.

The Golf thread is basically the only one I check out regularly on the old ZZL.

Go to the premium boards for recruiting and analysis (the one guy who does breakdowns of X&Os is really good) and to know when Mack will be let go.

I miss the old days of Basketball Premium when the basketball talk was very high level. As it grew, it became diluted.

Mine ran out about the time this board opened and I didn't renew. Tempted to renew more so for for the Paramont+ low yearly price, with the IC prem membership being the extra benefit. I used to be a big basketball and football recruiting junkie on the prem boards, but have really lost interest in it over the last 5+ years. Spent more time on the ZZLP since around the 2020 election, so missing out on the prem boards didn't matter that much anymore.

My premium expired yesterday. Given the coaching vacancy, I thought the timing was terrible, but it actually ended up being great as the Black Friday special is 75% off a yearly membership ($28 for the year).

Exactly. Since day 2, I haven't had to see a single post from Super, Snoop or Harold. As a result, I love these boards.

Oh they're UNC "fans", but the type of UNC fan that couldn't sniff the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill without buying a football or basketball ticket. Most of them are just filthy rednecks without a life who bitch and complain about everything because they're too damn stupid to ever amount to anything.
