I generally agree here. So far (and unfortunately for us), Scheyer appears to be the exception to the rule. I offer two possible reasons for his success in the brave new world of college sports: 1) Scheyer was with the program when K was buying talent before NIL & the portal and 2) Duke of late has had much better success placing marquee talent into the NBA than UNC (and most any other team in CBB, for that matter).I get that, but if someone knows what the hell they are doing, it can be done.
I'm sure nobody around here thinks baseball is a reasonable comparison, but Scott Forbes has done just fine following a Hall of Fame coach...and he inherited a MUCH more bare cupboard.
Moreover, Scheyer is doing just fine and arguably Duke without K is MUCH less of a brand than UNC without Roy.
