I've watched the first episode of the new season and I do wonder if the show would have benefited from time jumps between the seasons - the gang looks way too old to still be in high school

El is the weakest part of the show. I think they have begun to recognize her limitations as an actress. Hence the move to focusing on Will.
if that's what they're doing, then they picked an awful pivot vehicle, because schnapp is blown off the screen in every scene he shares with the other kids. maybe being evil stunts one's creative abilities.

Agree. Although I am interested where they’re taking the Max story in the remaining episodes.

The amount of time between seasons is ridiculous. I hate how they also split up the seasons into different parts. That's just greed, making sure they can charge for more than one month instead of people paying for a month and then binging it all at once.

There was an 18 month time jump between seasons 4 and 5.

I think that the kids looking too old for HS is unfortunate, but I think you change the underlying story a lot if they're out of HS. And now the series fits the 80s (and 90s) habit of casting adults to play HSers, as well.

That being the case, I don’t like how they’re making Will into the hero with El-like powers. IMO he’s the worst part of the show, and he’s setting up to be the hero who saves the world.
I don't think Will will have full El powers, more that he can act within the hive mind to affect those connected to the hive mind (the Mind Flayer, Vecna, various democreatures).

I think it's an interesting development, as it gives the good guys a power duo to fight the Mind Flayer/Vecna team. I don't think that any one person will save th world, but that it'll be an "all hands on deck" operation where everyone has to do specific parts toward success (although El will almost certainly have the biggest role with now Will likely having a large role, as well).

I mean, Will flicked his arms down and tore the Demos in half. That's very El or Vecna like.

What Will did to the 3 demogorgons was, very obviously, the same thing that Vecna did to the HSers in Hawkins that he killed...from freezing them to lifting them up to breaking their bones in nearly identical fashion.

Where I don't think he'll have full powers is that we've not seen that he can open gates or move physical objects in the regular world or do things to folks who aren't connected to the hive mind. Now, as we've only seen about 90 seconds of his powers, it's possible he can do those things, but my hunch is that he won't be able to (except maybe open temporary gates, as that is a very UD/hive mind-specific thing).

It feels like the implication of the final scene in episode 4 is that Will has powers now and those are directly intertwined with Vecna and should be exactly the same.

I didn't take that implication from that scene, but I admit that, with what we know now, it is a valid inference to make.

Dang it I quit watching after season two thinking I would get caught up but 3 more seasons with new stuff to watch is a lot of pressure!
