Stranger Things season 5 [now including SPOILERS]

I thought the finale was great.

I'm personally a little bummed about El's ending, but it's very good from a storyline perspective.

The ending for the rest of the party and everyone else was excellent.

I enjoyed the show - thought the finale was too long but I guess they really wanted to tie up almost all the loose ends

Just watched it and though long as they completed most of the mission in hour 1, I though they wrapped things up well. I enjoyed the entire series.

Again, it was obvious it was all just a dnd campaign. Why is nobody talking about this?
My son said the Duffer brothers said this wasn’t going to be the ending. I thought of it, fitting kind of a nod to Dallas, but I don’t think so. But I’ve never played DND so maybe I missed the big flashing lights.

I was ok with the finale.

The part I’m fuzzy on from the last season…what is the significance of the flashbacks in time to when Hopper and the parents of the kids were in HS with Henry? I thought there would be some grand reveal/missing link but it went over my head if there was. And I thought when Brenner made Henry “001” he was living at the Lab…how did he end up in the local HS with other kids his age?

The only thing I would have liked to have seen answered is what happened with the army folks and how they cleared all that up without the gang getting arrested.

I guess Henry got his powers from the alien rock in the cave, and then he was maybe captured and put in the lab? I'm not sure if they really explained that on the show before and I forgot or it wasn't really explained. Not sure what the high school scenes were about.

It seems there is a Stranger Things play that explains more of the origin of Henry's powers and the upside down that isn't in the show.

Origin of Henry's Powers (Vecna):
  1. Innate Ability: Henry was born with powerful telekinesis and telepathy, which manifested as early as childhood, terrifying his family.
  2. The Cave Incident: As a young boy, Henry discovered a hidden cave containing advanced technology from a U.S. government project (related to Brenner's work).
  3. Dimension X & the Mind Flayer: Activating the device transported him to the Upside Down (Dimension X) for 12 hours, where he met the Mind Flayer.
  4. Corruption & Transformation: The Mind Flayer, a hive-mind entity, latched onto Henry, using him as a vessel, infecting him with darkness, and giving him immense power, turning him into Vecna.
How Others Got Powers (Hawkins Lab):
  • After Henry's transformation, Dr. Brenner extracted Henry's mutated blood.
  • He used this blood in experiments, transfusing it into pregnant women, which led to children like Eleven being born with psychic powers.
This article talks about the play and the origin of the powers.

A lot of what is missing here is explained in "The First Shadow", the ST play.

That story takes place back when Hopper/Joyce/Henry (along with others related to current time characters) were in HS and focuses on a play that Joyce leads for the Hawkins HS theatre club plus it explains how Henry first gained his powers.

Henry gained his powers when he touched the object in the briefcase (the play has Henry being transported to the Abyss where he meets the Mind Flayer and gains powers, the tv show has him simply gaining the powers directly from the object itself) when he encountered the Russian guy while exploring caves near his home. The caves are in Nevada where the Creel family lived before moving to Hawkins.

Dr. Brenner takes an interest in Henry because Dr. Brenner's dad had been transported to the Abyss during a government experiment and experienced changes, as well, although hid dad didn't become evil. That's why Dr. Brenner takes Henry to the Hawkins Lab to learn more about him and to work with him on Dr. Brenner's experiments.
