There is a recent effort to turn the area into a mini "Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge" type thing, and there has been a lot of resistance. Money usually wins.

Trump should have taken office and immediately reached out to Canada and Mexico and formed a partnership.

Mexico has a safety problem and an economic problem. One of the many reasons folks come here is because there are better opportunities in the US. We should be working to make their country more prosperous.

I think a reasonable plan would have been:

Reach out to Mexico and say the drugs have to stop and the border has to be closed. If that happens, US will work to push companies to onboard mfg to North America (mainly Mexico). It will help their economy and shut down a lot of drug flow.

North America working together could really be powerful and Mexico being in a better spot helps the US in so many different ways.

I would say the current strategy makes no sense but there isn’t a strategy.

Reaching out to Mexico and Canada would have required an actual plan, not the concept of a plan that trump had.

Completely agree with helping to improve Mexico's economy, but how would that go over with the isolationist and America first crowd that is happy that USAID is decimated?

Yes, but it's still made in Tennessee. Buffalo Trace is owned by Sazerac of New Orleans, well, Metairie, but it's still Kentucky bourbon.

Why would it slow or shut down the flow of drugs?

The drugs move into the USA in response to demand.
