The Music Thread

Those Latin Rhythms get me too. I've tried to study them and emulate them, but they're all so nuanced and difficult for someone not born and raised with them, to get them in their system. It's either in your blood, or you are raised with it. The rhythms are different but similar all at the same time. It's all about the clave - I get that... I've been to Mexico and both Central and South America (as well as Spain) and I've asked folks to help me out. I've wood-shedded with experienced drummers and percussionists. Tryint to learn the differences between all of the Latin Rhythms and how to mimic them on guitar. Bossa Nova, Samba, Salsa, Merengue, Beguine, Cumbia, Tango, Mambo, Coro,Rumba, ChaCha... it's an almost endless list.

As far as what I try to play - I've attempted to perfect a basic Bossa Nova guitar rhythm based off of what I hear on Antonio Carlos Jobim albums and then speed it up or slow it down to try to "fake" any others. The Beguine rhythm is also one I've sort of gotten down. Then there's the Oye Como Va/Evil Ways/Black Magic Woman Latin Rock style on guitar I've studied on the Santana and Tito Puente albums. The Tango also one I can fake.

Indeed is right!
I'd add Horace Silver's Song For My Father and Vince Guaraldi's Charlie Brown Christmas... And maybe The Incredible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery
Those 3 CDs are in my collection, as well. So I agree with your add on:)

I left off my personal favorites such as Ahmad Jamal's Live at the Pershing and one of my favorite jazz "songs" ...Poinciana

I had the privilege to see him at a night club in Durham many years ago. The weird thing was that he came down from elevated stage that remained well above eye level such that I had to raise my head to watch him perform. It caused a crick in my neck but that was a small price to pay ;)

Don't know enough to place him techically but he composed a significent number of differing musical scores that are part of the songbook. From Breakfast at Tiffany's to this goodie.

Mancini wrote the music and Johnny Mercer the words to Moon River. A simple but beautiful song.

That’s some wild shit right there. Kinda sorta like what we have going on here in America right now. Some wild shit. Gotta be keyboard, electronic and computer generated music track? No?
Igorrr is the stage name for a musical genius named Gutierre Serre, a hyper skilled musician whose style is something out of prog metal, more aptly baroque metal. The rabbit hole should you investigate him and the great musicians he works with is deep, and there are no more skilled people represented in this thread. This zenith skilled mania music is not for everyone, but I like a lot of stuff others would never come in contact with.

You must listen to this one, or your life will be incomplete in ways untold. For one thing you'll miss out on the nightmare bluegrass at the end.

Hahaha That’s a mash up for sure. I’m wondering which baroque piece he sampled there - or if he wrote that bit? Same with the bluegrassy bit at the end. Of course all those G-C-D bluegrass progressions are the same. I liked the other classical sounding thing at the beginning with the violin played pizzicato. Some weird ass shit all in all, not just Tendon either. All of his stuff. Almost like a modern day Zappa in a way. But this stuff I KNOW all the Euro cats dig. Seems like all the really outrageous stuff comes out of Sweden, Germany, Czechia, and this guy out of France. But the Europeans can be… shall we say, interesting.

RIP Jesse Colin Young. Best known for Come Together with the Youngbloods. His solo stufff riffs into the jazz world a bit. My favorite and another. @Centerpiece i think you'll like ridgetop.

I hadn’t realized Jesse had passed 😢RIP. Jesse Colin Young.
The big hit as The Youngbloods was “Get Together” (not Come Together) but I always forget the name of that tune. I always refer to it as Come on People Now (let’s get together try to love one another right now).
A classic, and huge hit.
Thanks grimes
