I think he and Carter started in 1946... shortly after the Stones and Keith Richards started recordingI saw him perform in Memorial hall many years ago . He was old and feeble and had to quit after around 30 minutes. He apologized to the audience but said the band would finish the performance. The music was great, but seeing a bluegrass icon go out that way was a very sad thing to see.
I think I saw that performance in 2010 so Ralph was in his mid 80s. I think Ralph, Jr. and his grandson ,Nathan, finished the show. Ralph died a few years later...I think he and Carter started in 1946... shortly after the Stones and Keith Richards started recording![]()
