At what temperature does the Mosquito population "go away"
Most of them hibernate when temps are below 50 degrees and will die in freezing temperatures. They seem to me to start getting sluggish and pretty rare when high temps are in the 50s, at least in NC. I think I’ve read that Alaska has some nasty ones they remain active in colder temperatures.

Wow. When I was at UNC, we had no measurable snow my first three years (it did sleet overnight every now and then without meaningful accumulation— I waited overnight for drop-add one of those nights — but it had snowed the year before during the ‘86-87 academic year). We finally had an ice storm my senior year. UNC then always touted that they hadn’t canceled classes since the Civil War, so class went on and a lot of people busted their ass and wrecked their car on the ice that day.

And even that measurable snow wasn't much more than a dusting IIRC. I think the last snow of any significance was in 2018 and was still only 2-3 inches. I've resigned myself to the fact that it doesn't snow in Raleigh anymore. On the flip side, walk outside during the summer and it's instant ball sweat.

Of course last year WRAL predicted a snowy winter and look how that turned out.
Yes, they forecasted above average snow last winter. I don't think the long term forecasting matters at all. Our climate is so messed up now that what happened in the past doesn't seem to apply anymore. All we need is one good one, though. But I do think it is getting harder and harder to get snow here because our climate is just different now.

All the hurricanes used up all the energy for snow. We need to just drop bombs into the hurricanes to break them up so we can get snow again.
