I am super worried about getting an ice storm. I still remember how bad the ice storm in 2002 was when I was in middle school. Want absolutely no part of that.
This. You can still usually drive on snow if you have to and most cities will get roads and streets passable fairly quickly. But ice is a whole different ballgame. What always worries me is losing power. We do have a propane fireplace so we won't freeze, but we don't have a backup power generator. I'm really hoping this is just a snowstorm, but to be honest we're way overdue for a bad ice storm in the NC Piedmont, so our luck may have finally run out.

Weather channel update for Orange County/Chapel Hill area now says (for Saturday night) "a foot or more of snow expected"

I have never seen it say "a foot or more" for a day/night period. Add up the max totals and you get over 2 feet of snow. I am tingly.

I have been complaining for a long time about a lack of "real" snow in central NC. As, I suspect, have many other people. This may be some sort of karmic punishment, as that would probably, in fact, be "too much" snow, especially when it means I'm trapped in the house with my kids, trying to work, for a week.

Honestly, I welcome the thought of 2 feet. A whole week of snow is amazing. Of course, I work remotely, but I think I can feign some "power outages"

If I am reading it right, the last Euro run would SUCK as it would all turn to freezing rain and South Carolina and Georgia would basically be dead.

And I think that's what weather channel uses cause now it says Saturday night "a foot or more of snow and ice" TF??

I mean its Tuesday
But the last few hours trend is a massive sleet /ice storm .Sleet Okay , Freezing rain bad
Neither is two feet of snow-which is what all the weather apps have been saying the last 24 hours...........
