This thread is totally random

I'm stressed, depressed, and anxious. Moving my mother is killing me. I am so thankful for everyone that is helping, but my dad's refusal to prepare for this and my brother's refusal to help are almost impossible obsticals. I have 4 days to have her out of this house. Wish me luck.

I do wish you luck. Moving is stressful enough on its own. Doing it with grudging or no assistance like that has to be terrible.

Not my business and maybe not my place to say, but your brother needs a proctology exam with a size 12 EE pointy boot.

My brother is a special person.

Unfortunately so is my mom.

I really wish they would both seek professional help. But, since my mom will be living with my family for awhile, we are going to encourage her to find a therapist.

Funny, I've talked with so many people this week, and many have very similar stories of older people and their stuff.

It's been quite an experience in many ways.

Couple of really nice guys came back after the estate sale and helped me take 4 or 5 loads of stuff to donation centers. I ignored the trump 2024 sticker on their truck. 😁

Another guy came with them. We found out he and his wife are recovering addicts who had recently purchased a small home and child protective services had returned their children. They have so very little. We gave them all of the remaining furniture and all of the food in the house.

And another young couple stopped by the sale. When she saw all the barbies that my mother had; it was like a child at Christmas. She purchased a curio cabinet and all 55 barbies. She talked with my mother for an hour. Which was really great. Made my mother feel really good about letting go of the dolls. The next day she sent pictures of the cabinet with many of the dolls displayed.

So, it's been a very interesting few weeks.

But, I am ready to go back to a more normal existence.

Derek Thompson, a writer for the Atlantic, has this Plain English podcast which explores all sorts of interesting topics. This one was an interview with Sahil Bloom and his book about the five types of wealth (financial, time, physical, mental and social). It really gave me structure to things I've even thinking about lately.

Bonus nugget: Thompson's wife is getting her PhD at Carolina, so he's living somewhere in Chapel Hill this year.

Sounds like a coffeehouse kinda guy. Has a young kid. Think he said on a podcast that he's kind of an introvert when it comes to total strangers (bit ironic for a podcaster).
 
Just started supper. Took out the 7 lb pork butt I rubbed with kosher salt last night, the fire is started and the hickory chips are soaking. Only another 10-12 hours and it'll be ready.

Just went to get my driver's license renewed. Took right at an hour as a walk in. I was surprised at how fast it went because it was fairly crowded.
 
My basketball season starts next week. I've won the national title 4 of the last 7 years (including a three-peat), but last year was my worst season in about 13 years finishing at .500 (lost my star pg and leading scorer, lots of new faces). That provoked a real crisis of confidence, until my college roomie snapped me out of it (he's been a high school coach in NC for 20+ years...basically said I've been spoiled by my success).

I have retooled this year but the league has become more competitive. Picked up my American import yesterday, a kid who played ball at Chicago State (and has since played internationally).

Seems a little prudish for NYC. Is she good at her job? Many women do this for exercise, self esteem, etc. I didn't read the article, I guess I should, but she seems pretty thick to make much of a living at this. Then again, different tastes abound.

EDIT: I see it is a music video for some lowly rapper. So what, she's not a teacher or school counselor. I would let it slide, right down the pole.

My four year old grandson just left with his daddy for his first big fencing tournament at George Mason. He's been wanting to go with him for a while. Not sure how it's going to go.
