Trump 2028

As Americans, we accept a certain level of corruption, lies, unaccountability, etc., from our politicians. Always have. It's obviously imperfect, and we should do better. However, this has always been the case, and we've still managed.

Trump is an entirely different level of these things. And one that is completely unacceptable, provided we still have any pretense of remaining a democracy or being a "country of the people." Trumpism is unsustainable, at least if we are to remain a constitutional republic.
I suppose that’s sort of true, but the levels of corruption we’ve tolerated are far below what is typical in many countries and very often has been punished by law.

True but things are relative. You're right though that we tolerate things many do not. At least in the developed world.

The major blame goes to the people who were so stupid as to ignore the state of SCOTUS in 2016 and let personalities and decades of lies about Hillary persuade them to either vote against her or stay home. Lying Hillary, indeed, you dumbass SOBs.
Thank you !

I have posted this in years past but it bears repeating...

I had a discussion with my younger daughter and some of her friends before the 2016 election They were in their 30s.

They were talking about how they didn't like Hillary because they had preferred Bernie and saw her as no different than Trump. I said even if you don't like Clinton, you need to vote for her because if Trump is elected he will be nominating SCOTUS justices which would be devastating . They just rolled their eyes.

I guess it's another FAFO ?

If people are honest, I can't imagine that any liberal or moderate who didn't vote in 2016/voted third party because they didn't care for Hillary doesn't now regret it, probably several times over. But given human pride and stubbornness I doubt they'll openly admit it. Hell, my guess is even a few Trump voters last year now regret their vote, such as those struggling Iowa farmers in this weekend's NY Times article posted elsewhere. But of course they'd never publicly admit it, because to do so would be to admit they had made a terrible mistake, and that can't be allowed to happen.

Indeed things are relative.
Relatively speaking, all the countries in Europe (Western Europe anyway) are all much more tolerant in many ways with their leaders. For example: when Clinton was getting his little Willie polished and the Nation was wringing their puritanical hands, Europe was going “what’s the big deal? So your prez is getting a little nookie on the side… what’s new about that?”

So in that regard - and many others - the developed world actually tolerates a lot of stuff Americans can’t countenance.
