Trump 2028

That is pure trolling.
Yes and no.

There is, in fact, a big movement among MAGA/Project 2025 types to either (a) cast so much doubt on election results that Trump will proclaim martial law and remain president, with the blessing of a compliant R party; or (b) call off/delay elections altogether under a similar guise.

Whether Trump’s health will hold out that long is a matter of debate. And it does seem like Trump is on his last leg, trying to cement his legacy now before he dies.

And MAGA lives to troll the libs at all costs. So there is that.

But I think it’s a bit naive to chalk this whole thing up to trolling. He’s going to try for a 3rd term, if he’s alive.

Cute or not, I don’t think it’s allowed. The VP candidate has to be eligible to become President.
Says who. With SCOTUS in pocket there are no rules. Forget Congress… they would be helpless. PLUS… there is better than good chance 2028 election will be rigged… legally at state level. The founders could not imagine how immoral politics would have become 250 years hence. So, there was no thought given to protecting the Constitution from a conniving asshole like Trump emboldened by a political party totally in grasp of corporations and wealth.

What Trumpism has shown is that the political rules and things like checks and balances and separation of powers don't really matter anymore - if you control all three branches of the federal government and most state governments you can pretty much do whatever the hell you want and dare your opposition to stop you if they can. The old rules are out the window. And one thing that has hobbled Democrats is that they either don't seem to understand this or they can't accept that the rules have changed - they're still trying to play by a set of rules that Trump & Company (including his Supreme Court) has largely made obsolete. And a good many Americans are still trying to wrap their heads around that fact.

They'll just find ways to subvert the 22nd Amendment or render it obsolete. Hell, Southern segregationists simply ignored the 14th and 15th Amendments for over 80 years after they were ratified to keep blacks from voting and make them second-class citizens, so what's to stop their ideological descendants from doing the same to other amendments they don't like? These are people who believe that established rules and laws and customs and norms were made to be broken.

You don't have to run for another term if there isn't another election. You just stay in office until the "crisis" is over.
