None of these critiques is surprising. The USSS has been in a crisis of morale since at least the Obama Administration. It also sounds like years of success led to lax observance of the policies and procedures on which the prior successes were built.

OTOH, hindsight is always more clear than the heat of the moment. And USSS is in an all or nothing service — they don’t get to make these kinds of mistakes.
It really was embarrassing. It's not like he smuggled in a handgun or sniped him from a half mile away. He was just wandering around with his view finder, making his plans and setting up shop on the roof of a nearby building.

It reminds me of the scene from A Few Good Men where Colonel Markinson (?) commits suicide while under Federal Martial protection and Tom Cruz goes on a rant about how he didn't hang himself with his shoe laces, but was able to get dressed in full uniform, stand in the middle of the room and use a nickel-plated pistol......

In a normal world, what the judge unsealed a couple of weeks ago would have been an enormous scandal that cost Trump the election but because Trump is Trump, the story barely ran for 24 hours.

I guess I'm just talking myself into not expecting much but I assume this will be even less substantial.

The great unsealing has been redacted and sometimes sealed.

"A federal judge has ordered Army officials to release their records by the end of this week regarding President Donald Trump’s controversial [August 26, 2024] visit to Arlington National Cemetery this summer.

Senior Judge Paul Friedman of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on Tuesday granted the release request as part of a lawsuit brought by American Oversight, a non-partisan, nonprofit group dedicated to getting the government to release records. ..."
