We live in an area with a lot of NOAA, USGS, Fisheries and related scientists. I was talking to a friend last night who's wife works for NOAA. They are totally streesed out. No idea what is likely to happen from one day to the next. Another friends wife works for a nonprofit that supports wetlands management. They have multiple wetlands retoration projects under construction that are largely funded by federal grants, so they have no idea if there will be money to pay the contractors that are in the field doing the work.
Not to say all of these projects are necessary or helpful, but the people that voted for Trump really make no connection to the consequences of cutting funding for all of these departments and projects and the impact on actual working Americans. These cuts ripple through the entire economy. The private sector (energy, pharmaceuticals, tech) uses a tremendous amount of research produced by Federal level scientists. Will the private sector start funding all of that needed research on their own? Maybe?
The contractors doing the field work for the wetlands restoration projects likely voted for Trump without any thought as to how cuts would impact them.
FAFO indeed.
StfuSupreme Court briefly pauses order for Trump admin to imminently release foreign aid
The bastards have no trouble "accidentally" firing essential workers on the spot or shutting down NIH, but can't write an electronic check when ordered by the court.Stfu
First measles death in 10 years:
Measles has spread to San Angelo, TX from west Texas.
Oh, and Musk "accidentally" fired Ebola prevention workers in Uganda.
I am going to be mean right now, even for me. But it's 100% necessary.I’ll be completely honest, and this is not intended to be disrespectful to nycfan, whom I appreciate and admire as a poster, but this board is becoming virtually unreadable and is a whole lot less enjoyable by the passing day to be part of. It actually has nothing to do with politics or ideological disagreement in my opinion, and everything to do with the fact that we have feels like 15 new thread topics started every single day, the overwhelming vast majority of which are by the same poster. There is absolutely no way that we need this many new threads. How many different threads do we need on Elon Musk or Elon Musk adjacent or doge or doge adjacent topics? I haven’t said anything until now but it has become a point of irritation to me recently, but I was more than willing to grin and bear it because overall I enjoy this community and the people in it, but if we are airing grievances on this thread, consider mine aired.
Bunch of Florida Trump voters might want to start puckering their business ends. Or making sure their children really love them.Word is that around one-half of all federal workers at the Social Security Administration are going to be fired/let go. Which will obviously make it far harder for that agency to do its job and ensure that retirees and others on SS get their checks and the other services they need. Again, I thought we were all told that SS wouldn't be touched - how is gutting the agency that provides SS not qualify as an attack on that program? I eagerly await the defenses/excuses from our House Trumpers.

Nah, Elon and his buddies get to pocket that $12M and then some. But we have saved like 12 million dollars
Typical projection.Marge Greene saying "Federal workers/employees don't deserve their paychecks or their jobs" (paraphrasing) while at the same time not realizing (or caring) that she is a federal employee.....it's just so quintessentially MAGA. :chefskiss
