My fox news addled mother in law begged my wife and i not to go to Chicago because she was sure we would be gunned down in the street in front of the fucking Wrigley building.
Well in America, it’s always possible, I guess.

Okay. Next try to explain it to you. If you look at underpaying your taxes that way, you can park in a no parking zone over and over and as long as you pay the ticket you won't go to jail or anything. Does that seem legal to you?
Again, wrong analogy. Keep getting parking tickets and eventually they will boot you/tow your car which yields more fees, expenses, etc, It is LEGAL to underpay your quarterly taxes. Or not pay them at all as long as you pay everything when you file, along with the penalties. Again, I have paid NO quarterly taxes for at least 10 years now. I have been audited once by the IRS during those 10 years. Nothing has ever been done to me, and I was told that what I was doing was totally fine by the IRS auditor. A penalty does not equate illegality.

Well keep not paying the penalty for underpaying your taxes, you rack up interest and fees and you end up in jail. And that's the point of the analogy.

Its illegal to underpay your taxes. The remedy won't be jail if you pay the penalty and interest but that doesn't magically make it legal.

And the answer is no. An individual would be subject to penalties for underpaying their income tax throughout the year and then paying their entire tax liability at the end of the year.
A coworker of mine did this several years ago. He claimed something like 20 allowances (I don't remember the exact number), and the IRS sent him a letter and penalized him.

Try again, as once more, you are wrong. Speeding results in a ticket and a traffic offense, plus points against your insurance. Done enough times yields more penalties, including criminal offenses and a possible loss of your license. Underpaying your taxes throughout the year, or declaring too many exemptions just means you pay a little more when filing. But it can be done EVERY year with nothing more done to you. I have done it at least 10 years in a row now, and have been audited once and told that what I am doing is just fine.
I hate to agree with the jacket, but he's right. Not paying taxes is in fact illegal. That the penalty is only fines (which isn't true btw -- you can get jail time, just as Wesley Snipes) doesn't mean it's not illegal. Or that it's not criminal. It can be a civil or criminal offense without the penalty being jail. I think what you have been doing is a civil offense and would not merit jail time, but you are required to pay quarterly taxes, and failure to do so is illegal. It is literally a violation of the law that says, "you have to pay your taxes every quarter."

I regret mentioning keeping taxes from the feds. I knew when I said it that payroll taxes would be problematic and that the burden is on the individual as well as the employer.

I was just trying to not say secede and was looking for ideas that aren’t secession.

I am beginning to think that R.I.F is severely lacking on this board.
NOWHERE DID I SAY THAT IT ISN'T ILLEGAL TO NOT PAY YOUR TAXES. I said that it is NOT ILLEGAL to not pay quarterly estimated taxes or declare too many exemptions at first, as long as it is correct when you file. FOR THE THIRD TIME, I have not paid quarterly estimated taxes for at least 10 years now. I DO PAY YEAREND TAXES, along with penalties of underpayment during the year. No tickets, no court dates, no jail time, no mean letters, no phone calls during the year. Nothing. BECAUSE IT IS NOT ILLEGAL TO NOT PAY QUARTERLY ESTIMATED TAXES. I even included the direct link to the IRS Guidelines proving I am correct. The "penalties" are just the government recouping the interest that they miss out on having my money throughout the year. Again, because of my situation, I make more than they charge me by not paying throughout the year and paying when I file. Even the IRS auditor agreed with me and said that I was doing the correct thing.

If people can't understand this simple concept after the third time of me trying to prove it, I can't help you any further.

It is also illegal to not pay quarterly taxes. Not sure why you are so upset. Its federal tax law. Its complicated. Its okay to be wrong.

Trump has a solution for that. Provoke the unrest and if you don't get the necessary response just tear gas the protesters to make it look like a war zone.

SCOTUS will buy it 100%.

Rinse. Repeat. Rinse. Repeat.

The only way out of this is to not speak up and submit fully.

Exactly. And the crazy lefties in Portland will happily oblige him - as there are a shit ton of them looking for a fight. This has Kent State vibes all over it.

I am not saying that those in Portland are taking the smartest approach but cowering in submission isn’t the approach either.
