Trump seeks $230 million settlement from DoJ

One of these two:
The No. 2 official at the Justice Department — Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche — worked as Trump’s lead criminal defense lawyer. Another top DOJ lawyer, Stanley Woodward, who runs the department’s Civil Division, represented a Trump co-defendant in the classified documents case.

According to the Justice Manual, any settlement would have to get sign-off from either the deputy attorney general or the associate attorney general.

“…
The potential settlement, being for an administrative claim, would not need to be publicly announced, and would simply need the approval of one of two Trump-friendly officials: Todd Blanche, who is the deputy attorney general and Trump’s former criminal defense attorney, or DOJ civil division chief Stanley Woodward Jr., who has represented many of the president’s aides and allies—from Trump’s co-defendant in the classified documents case to participants in the January 6 Capitol attack.

Compensation in such cases is “typically covered by taxpayers,” the Times reports.…”

A smart Democratic party would have every member on every morning show screaming about "You can't pay for groceries, but Trump just paid himself a quarter of a billion dollars of tax money" but we don't have that.

Though I hear Schumer is considering writing a letter....

Sad but true.

Republicans are much better at being the party out of power. They are great at criticizing the government and those in power. Of course, once they get in power they have no idea how to govern. Still, Democrats could take lessons from them on how to be the opposition party.

Chuck Schumer has cost Dems a Senate senate seat in NC and is about to lose us a seat to the vulnerable very concerned and troubled Susan Collins in Maine by backing 77yo soon to be 78yo Gov Janet Mills instead of the charismatic 41yo Graham Plattner who is drawing big crowds at his town halls all across Maine. Plattner has the perfect bio and campaign message that should be the template for all Dem candidates.

It's time for Schumer to retire and pass the torch to Chris Murphy as Senate minority leader.

Yes. This seems so obvious to anyone paying attention. It's infuriating that the Dems inside the beltway can't see what is so clear to the rest of the country.

I don't really disagree on Schumer, who as I heard someone (I don't remember who) say, might have been an adequate majority leader but is not a "war-time consigliere" for a minority opposition party.

But, uh, I assume you didn't see this about Graham Platner?
