Vintage 3 minutes of Carville opining on this slap fight, starting at 3:24...

So 80% of Americans are in favor of slashing Social Security and Medicare and abolishing food stamps and many other essential services and programs that are only supplied by the government? And 80% of Americans are basically in favor of having Silicon Valley tech bros taking over the government and hiring college-age tech nerds to cut government services that they know absolutely nothing about, probably using AI? Somehow I think that even Elon is going to disappointed with the response his new party will get.

As polling already shows, the vast majority of Republicans are still blindly loyal to Dear Leader (by a 12-to-1 margin according to one poll) and so if he tries to create a third party it will likely go nowhere. As another poster has already noted, all that's really happened is that Elon has joined that vast number of business people who have been royally screwed by Donald J. Trump, and that everything Trump touches dies, while he keeps getting away scot-free like the Road Runner in the old Looney Tunes cartoons.

They are just mad Elon is messing up the Republican plan to eventually eliminate Trump, blame the Democrats for doing it, and get JD installed

“… “It's a wonderful game of 5D chess! Get the popcorn out, and watch the left go wild,” wrote one member of the Telegram channel run by prominent election denier David Clements.

Liz Crokin, a Pizzagate conspiracy theorist who met Trump in Mar-a-Lago in 2022, pushed the conspiracy theory even further. In a post on X that has been viewed 440,000 times, she claims that “it would not surprise me if the Deep State created fake evidence falsely implicating Trump. If this is the case, their scheme will fail and backfire. So grab your popcorn and watch the media and Democrats falsely report Trump is a pedophile and a sex trafficker—this boomerang will be epic! 5D chess at its finest, baby—checkmate!”…”
They are desperate and dumb enough to create and believe anything that makes them feel better.

A sad way to go through life but I guess it’s what they have to do to survive such a warped existence.

Someone is buying Teslas the Y is the best selling car in the US. I bought a used Y its been a great car I couldnt care less about Musk just like I eat at ChickFilA....they make a damn great consistent fast food chicken sandwich I couldnt care less about their religious bullshit beliefs.

I'll leave the protesting and butthurt boycotting garbage up to all the emotionally sensitive pill popping freaks in this country.
But sales of the Y did drop from 95,000 cars sold in the first quarter of 2024 to about 71,000 cars sold in the first quarter of 2025. I'll be curious to see what their sales are for the remainder of the year, and how it will match up to previous years.

Ygelsias is really smart. I've learned from him. I stopped reading him when he went to paid subscription and I guess he's sort of decayed?

I don't think he's entirely wrong about "embracing" Musk. I put that in scare quotes because it has to be realized by all that the alliance is more like US/USSR in World War 2. Nonetheless, I want the Big Beautiful Bill destroyed, and he wants that, and I don't see any reason not to hit him up for some cash to take down the idiots.

But Musk will never be an ally, obviously. Not sure exactly when he burned his liberal bridges permanently. Was it 2024? Was it when he started boosting the neo-Nazi party in Germany? When he started tearing through the government his bulldoge? All of them? Some things are unforgiveable and unforgettable and surely that's it. Still, we don't have to tear him down while he's opposing our opponent.

On the other hand, it's not clear if Musk is a valuable ally other than the money.

IOW, this. "inside the tent pissing out instead of outside the tent pissing in" is a colorful idiom, often attributed to Lyndon B. Johnson.

Truce isn’t holding

“President Donald Trump on Saturday said there would be “serious consequences” if tech mogul Elon Musk funds Democratic candidates to run against Republicans who vote in favor of the GOP’s sweeping budget bill.

“If he does, he’ll have to pay the consequences for that,” Trump told NBC News in a phone interview, but declined to share what those consequences would be.

“He’ll have to pay very serious consequences if he does that,” he added.

The president also said he has no desire to repair his relationship with Musk after a feud between the two men erupted into public view earlier this week.

“No,” Trump said when asked if he had any wish to do so.

Asked if he thought his relationship with the Tesla and SpaceX CEO was over, Trump said, “I would assume so, yeah.”

… Trump said he has no plans to speak with Musk anytime soon. “I’m too busy doing other things,” he said, adding, “I have no intention of speaking to him.”

Trump also accused Musk of being “disrespectful to the office of the President.”

“I think it’s a very bad thing, because he’s very disrespectful. You could not disrespect the office of the President,” he added….”

I don't discount how dangerous Musk is, to the entire world. What you shouldn't discount is the immense amount of domestic political power Trump wields, plus the immense amount of actual power he currently wields by commanding the US government and military.

White House security staff warned Musk’s Starlink is a security risk

Starlink satellite connections in the White House bypass controls meant to stop leaks and hacking.

“…. It could not be verified whether the rooftop terminal remains installed or if anything would change now that Musk has receded from the government. A “Starlink Guest” WiFi network appeared on White House phones in February, prompting users only for a password, not a username or a second form of authentication, according to the people. That WiFi network was still appearing on White House visitors’ phones this week.

…Traditionally at the White House, personal phones on guest WiFi networks need names and passwords that are tracked and expire after a week, the people said. Work computers are locked down with security programs and staffers’ interactions with the outside world are “very thoroughly tracked,” with the device identifiers and times of all transmissions recorded, said one of the people, who left the government after the Starlink installation.

“Starlink doesn’t require anything. It allows you to transmit data without any kind of record or tracking,” this person told The Post. “White House IT systems had very strong controls on network access. You had to be on a full-tunnel VPN at all times. If you are not on the VPN, White House-issued devices can’t connect to the outside.”…”
This Is what I mean when I say that Trump may not come out as cleanly on this one as he has with other feuds.

In a very narrow way, I get the instinct to treat Musk as a temporary ally, but that is faulty logic. Musk is not just rich, he is the face of the oligarchy we are supposed to be fighting. He built his empire on public money and worker exploitation, attacks unions and public transit, and now uses his platform to boost white nationalists and undermine democracy.

He does not want to take down the Big Beautiful Bill for the same reasons we do. He wants fewer limits on his power.

Aligning with Musk, even tactically, muddies the message. If Democrats want to build a winning coalition, they have to be the anti-oligarch party. You cannot take on corporate power while cozying up to one of its worst offenders. Musk is the system Dems need to be fighting.
We can only hope that this leads to mutual destruction.

There is no good guy here.

Eff em both to hell.

There's a difference, I think, between now and, say, 2028. We are trying to resist without having any real way of doing so; Musk can help us in the narrow short term if he's up for it.

But we don't want him on our campaign ads. Or our administrations.

Elon may be out of DC, but all of his DOGE minions are indelibly inked in and submerged into all of the Federal Government systems. These minions were not vetted or elected or even appointed by Trump, his administration or by Congress. So to whom are all of these minions beholden? Trump? The USofA? To what oath of office did any of them swear - one hand on bible, the other raised?

Who do they have as #1 on speed dial on their DOGE issued smart phones? If push comes to shove, and Elon wants to unleash his minions and have them direct their efforts towards making miserable the lives of all those in the White House - how can that be good for Trumpenstein?
