On your last few sentences, I am not sure the average MAGA knows that stuff. These people are glued to Fox News. They get propaganda fed to them every night. When it is a Republican in office it is about how great the economy is, how low the crime rate is, etc. When it is a Democrat in office it is about how horrible the economy is, how high the crime rate is, etc. The actual metrics don't matter because they are constantly being fed lies.

That is why I push back when people say all MAGAs are racist, etc. They are just reacting to the world as their media tells them it is.

That is not to say that there isn't a lot of truth with what you say about many in the MAGA movement but it isn't universal by any stretch.
Yes, while some MAGAs are racist, the movement as whole is better characterized by saying that they are susceptible to being made to believe racist things than that they are actually racist.

Dude is still blaming Biden for what Trump is about to do. Fuck him.
I would rough up my two younger brothers on occasion when we were growing up. Sometimes, I would tell our father they made me do it. Never worked. Still, you can expect that line from a kid, not a grown man.

That was my takeaway too, and it's a nice preview of what we'll be hearing from pretty much everyone on the right in a few months when the news is showing dads being ripped away from their screaming kids by ICE agents carrying assault weapons and the economy is crashing for lack of labor.

"This is all Biden's fault!!!"

I don't follow.

If one readily accepts racist things, they may not admit it but they are probably racist.

One can be racist and not be a proud boy.

This may be the most obvious thing anyone has ever posted on this board, but I was thinking this morning about how many Pubs seem to be finding out only now what Trump kept saying he would do, and relatedly, how many Pubs still claim Kamala never said anything about what she wanted to do. I mean, billions were spent on advertising. The candidates' respective positions were all over the nightly news, MSM websites, discussed in rallies and press events, etc. How could Pubs be so ignorant to the positions of both candidates.

The answer, obviously, is the insular right wing media system that most Pubs now inhabit. Those of us who pay attention to all media sources had plenty of information about what the candidates intended to do. But right wing sources sanewashed Trump WAY more than the MSM did, while also completely failing to cover what Kamala was campaigning on. If all you watch is Fox, Newsmax, etc., and all you read is the NY Post and Epoch Times, and all you listen to is Ben Shapiro and Mark Levin, of course you'll think Kamala had no plan for anything. None of them made an effort whatsoever to report what Kamala was promising to do.

This is not to excuse anyone. Pubs choose to filter out information that could make them fully informed participants in our political system. That's all on them. But to me at least, this explains the ignorance. It's not that Pubs are hearing the truth and ignoring it. They're never hearing it at all.

FWIW, I think you are mostly spot-on here. I do think that for the folks who do hear the messages from outside their bubbles, they have been conditioned to instantly reject it and to hate it - because it came out of a Democrat's (or other "outsider's") mouth. And I also think that, tragically, when and if the shit does hit the fan, these same folks you mention will likely never blame the people who deserve it/are responsible for it. They'll be fed that it's the Democrats' fault in perpetuity, and that the so-called librul media is the problem and they are the ones who have created the alternate reality for lefties (accuse the other, of that which you are guilty). Right-wing media and pink slime is a gigantic and pernicious problem.

There's an independent doc out there from right before Trump was elected called, The Brainwashing of My Dad, which documents this woman's life with her previously reasonable father, who, once he got started on a steady diet of right-wing media, became unhappy, irritable, and intolerant of damned near anything or anyone. She eventually got him to stop watching, and he apparently mostly returned to how he was before not too long after that, but not all of us are that lucky. It's worth a watch, if for nothing else but empathy for what so many of us are going through, particularly with Thanksgiving fast approaching.

Ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

ETA: I take no schadenfreude from the clip, bc Gaza is now effectively an Aleppo or Kharkiv type situation - ie a humanitarian disaster that will likely accelerate beyond what most here imagine. I do work that exposes me to persistent examples of the surprisingly common human failure to accurately assess aggregate personal wellness vs gratification. I don’t see the uncommitted folks terribly differently.

Yes, I would imagine that many Trump voters saw more clips of CNN/MSNBC hosts talking about Kamala than actual clips of Kamala herself (unless you count the ones playing in Trump's ads).

I do also want to keep sight of the larger point here, though: this election was likely decided by voters who are not very politically engaged at all. We all know about the 40% of voters who are wandering off in MAGA dreamland. But it seems more and more clear to me that presidential "swing voters" are largely people who mostly don't consume any form of political news to any great degree, and instead show up to vote based on very limited exposure to such information (this is part of the reason political ads are effective).

I think this whole thread is a bit misguided, Pubs really do want these things. They are happy these things are happening, there is no remorse. We keep trying to impute some sort of moral fiber in them that simply does not exist. Realize it and act accordingly.
MAGAs yes. But Trump was also buoyed by low-information voters who just wanted eggs to get cheaper. They share in the culpability, but they’re not evil, just stupid.

I think you can accurately say that about most Trump supporters on this site - they’re grossly informed and educated. But we’re also exposed to a much higher concentration of the preparatory workings of the impending evil deeds. We follow this shit closely. We know campaigns do what they campaign on. We, collectively, know the characteristics of dictators and fascists. We’ve studied the breakdown of national and societal structures. We understand the dog whistles and preparatory language used by regimes that murder, disappear, and torture their own citizenry. We know despots when we see them. Most do not.

I take no joy in the suffering of people in Gaza but there is little that Biden can do about that.

If this guy would have had a mea culpa moment and said, "We were wrong and in hindsight we should have chosen the best of two bad options," I would say, ok, let's see what we can all do moving forward.

He did not do that. He did not accept that he played any role in the direction that we are going. Instead, he did the exact opposite and blamed Biden for the things that Trump is going to do. So f' that guy.
