I'm not trying to absolve the husband. No side is pure here. I'm simply stating that 10/7 was not only a horrific thing for Hamas to do, but it was a very, very stupid thing for them to do as it put Gaza in the predicament that it is currently in. It was like Hitler waging war on two fronts stupid. Yes, Israel has also done (and continues to do) horrific things, but international diplomacy is about taking smart, calculated risks. 10/7 was a stupid risk.

Let's try a different analogy. Let's say Israel is the leader of a drug cartel and they run things in your area. You are tired of seeing their product kill people and you can't get anywhere legally because they have bought off all of the politicians in your area. So you decide to kidnap and murder their kids. Let's say you even filmed a video of yourself doing it and livestreamed it so they know exactly who you are. Yeah, they are a bad guy but not only did you give up the moral high ground but you also completely fucked yourself and everyone that you know. And the people that may have been on your side earlier are going to sit this one out because they also know that you fucked up and kind of feel bad for the guy because as much of an asshole as he is, his kids didn't deserve to get murdered.
my simple analogy was a lot better. maybe you aren't trying to fully absolve the husband, but you keep focusing on the friend.

i'm interested in the welfare of the wife. not the piece of shit husband or the piece of shit friend. you pretend to hold the husband accountable while you simultaneously push the notion that the friend's actions forced the husband to murder the wife.

the husband murdered the wife. the friend did a dumb thing, but he didn't force the husband to murder the wife.

Israel is committing a genocide. hamas did a really dumb, awful thing but the idea that they forced Israel to do all of this nearly 1.5 years later is comical and obviously false and made moreso every day as we get more information and the situation continues to play-out before our eyes.

and there is absolutely no way that anyone would still be all that focused on the guy who murdered the drug kingpin's kids after the drug kingpin then turned around and slaughtered every person in town.

there is very, very little support out there for Israel at this point except from a select few other right wing regimes. bibi and gallant and ben givr (maybe?) are out here getting charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity left and right.

The White House tried to sell a skeptical Republican Party and foreign-policy establishment on taking over the beleaguered Gaza Strip after President Trump surprised many of his own allies with his plan to rebuild the enclave.

Concerns that Trump’s proposal was both unworkable and unwise bubbled even among Trump’s vocal supporters. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Wednesday that taxpayers wouldn’t cover the cost of developing the territory and that any Palestinian relocation would be temporary. She also stressed that the president hadn’t committed to sending U.S. troops to the region.

Republicans have lined up to applaud almost every one of Trump’s moves since he took office, defending the president against criticism from Democrats. But Trump’s proposal to take long-term control of Gazamarked a rare moment of discord in a largely unified party.

“We love the president, but our focus in the War Room is East Palestine, not Palestine,” longtime Trump ally Steve Bannon said in an interview. Bannon was referring to his podcast, “War Room,” and the Ohio town that was devastated by the 2023 derailment of a train carrying hazardous waste.

One House Republican lawmaker said Trump’s proposal “just doesn’t make a heck of a lot of sense to me,” adding that the idea could conflict with the GOP’s efforts to cut spending.

Sen. Kevin Cramer (R., N.D.), a Trump ally, said, “I think it’s a big, visionary idea that is impractical.” …”

All those conflicting cleanup attempts by Rubio and others in the Administration yesterday? Trump is like no, fuck that, I said what I meant.

I can’t decide whether he is serious or distracting/trolling. But to think we should assume he is serious based on how his second term has begun.

I think he’s serious in his own deranged mind. I also think there’s zero chance what he’s talking about will actually happen (not the completion of the genocide — that could definitely happen).

But the lesson we keep learning is not to listen to anyone in Trump’s administration except Trump. They’re ALL modern versions of the Iraqi information minister. They lie with impunity and are only charged with protecting Trump at all costs. But their problem is that Trump can’t control himself. He lets us know what he really wants to do dozens of times per day. We have to keep listening to him, not them.

Considering the current housing situation in the US, I wonder how his base is going to respond to the US footing the bill to build these new "safer and more beautiful communities "?

If the government is going to build communities, shouldn't they build in the US first?

Many obvious dynamic differences, but maga reminds me of the core body of fervent Aggie fans, ie brag incessantly about wealth they don’t share in, while damaging themselves psychologically and financially, for shitty results. I think maga will pound their chests at pictures of magamahal on the Med casino and raceway, while their tax dollars go straight into his wallet.

I think he is serious. But its so out there that its also why I don't get all bent out of shape when trump says these types of things. This isn't something he and his handlers can pull off on their on. This would take cooperation from such a large number of groups, not the least of which is American support. I just don't see any way Americans would support this in any way shape or form. Nor would the Arab world. So its just a non starter and him just bloviating because he will be front page news. Look at what an uproar it has already caused.

This whole "i don't know why people get worked up" thing is just silly to me.

People should take EVERYTHING said by a President of the United States seriously. That's part of the job. That might be the ingle biggest part of the job.

It's 100% the reason I didn't support Joe Biden running again. He couldn't be counted on to be the voice of the American people.

Should be? OK. But it isn't and trump has a very unique personality and we have to adjust to some of the things he says and understand what he can and can't do. I'm much more concerned about other things than his comments on assuming control of gaza.

C'mon. If Biden was doing this sort of thing, you wouldn't be shouting to anyone who would listen about how he has dementia and is ranting like a crazy old man? We can't normalize a President saying crazy things.

Just wait until Israel tries to annex the wB in a month with Trump's support and Saudi Arabia slaps an oil embargo on US
