Scott Bessent is a hedge fund guy and a pretty normal GOP nominee for Treasury, TBH.

Will be interested to see the MAGA reaction to him as he is a gay man and a Soros protege (though a conservative one). WSJ will be pleased, I assume.

I mean I don’t actually think she was trying to make the dog into a coat or anything but what a weird story.

It does sound like she treated the dog well but it also seems like she would have returned the dog to its original owners when they contacted her. I don’t think the story is disqualifying or anything — it’s not like she shot the dog dead in a pit out back. She fought (against Hurricane Katrina victims) to keep it.

“… Vought’s perch at the top of the Office of Management and Budget would give him outsize influence over slashing regulations and spending, which was one of the core goals pursued by the authors of Project 2025. He would also likely work closely with Elon Musk, who has made deregulation a central focus of his new role co-leading a new entity called the Department of Government Efficiency.

Vought and Musk have both argued that the White House has the power to limit spending without congressional approval, something that could be tested in the courts.

The Vought hire, along with other picks for the administration, contrasted with the staffing for the transition effort, when officials sought to keep those involved with the Heritage Foundation-run group out of the process.

During his campaign, Trump repeatedly denied any association with Project 2025, a 900-page policy blueprint for the federal government, as Democrats turned it into a political liability for his White House bid. Vice President Kamala Harris and others cast it as a radical plan to overhaul the government. But even before he won, some people close to Trump privately said they expected Project 2025-affiliated people to be hired in a second Trump administration. …”

Trump plans to fire Jack Smith’s team, use DOJ to probe 2020 election

The plans show how president-elect Donald Trump wants to use the Justice Department to address his own personal grievances

President-elect Donald Trump plans to fire the entire team that worked with special counsel Jack Smith to pursue two federal prosecutions against the former president, including career attorneys typically protected from political retribution, according to two individuals close to Trump’s transition.https://www.washingtonpost.com/newsletters/fact-checker/?itid=lk_cta_ssinline

Trump is also planning to assemble investigative teams within the Justice Department to hunt for evidence in battleground states that fraud tainted the 2020 election, one of the people said.

… “President Trump campaigned on firing rogue bureaucrats who have engaged in the illegal weaponization of our American justice system, and the American people can expect he will deliver on that promise,” press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement. “One of the many reasons that President Trump won the election in a landslide is Americans are sick and tired of seeing their tax dollars spent on targeting the Biden-Harris Administration’s political enemies rather than going after real violent criminals in our streets.”

After the initial publication of this article, Trump’s team sent another statement from Leavitt: “President Trump and his transition team speaks for him, and anonymous sources not affiliated with him have no idea what they are talking about,” it said. …”

The amount of rewriting history will be astounding.

Yep. lol about the horsesh*t where Trump disavowed Project 2025.

I give you the new head of OMB:

Gorka's a lunatic. Trump, Musk, and Vought will test Article 1 of the US Constitution.

We're a nation of suckers and losers voting for this clown show.

Our nation is fucked.

Best thing to do is to turn everything off, focus on your loved ones and yourself, and do your best to ignore the outside world while they pick it apart. And hopefully in two years, we can elect a Congress that will stop them, and two years after that, elect someone who will help rebuild this nation.

Oh, and buy everything you will need that will be affected by the tariffs now. Because by springtime, everything that requires a computer chip will cost 20% more, at the minimum.

If we have elections.

Your advice is everlasting. Folks should turn it off and never turn it back on. Go touch grass. I can’t stand the sound of Trump’s voice.

I’d honestly rather have this than the stupid pattern we’ve been stuck in where a Dem president hands off a strong economy to a Pub, the Pub slowly destroys it, and the Pubs then blame the destruction on the Dem who preceded him. I have a feeling the destruction will be so swift and comprehensive this time that there will be no doubt who caused it.

I personally don't have any problem with Bessent (maybe the only Cabinet pick so far I can say that aobut). He is a hedge fund guy but you are going to get a financial industry or econ prof there regardless.
Starting to see the nuts on social media criticize him for his sexual orientation. aND his work for Soros. He was a Gore guy back in 2000.
My only concern re him is that like most Repbilicans he will deregulate the financial industry too much and we will have some sort of system crisis like the 2008 banking or 1980/90s S&L. Cryptp + derivatives + leverage + something new the fin types think up to make more money but at great risk

Super said something about him being a tariff guy. I assumed Trump would pick someone who likes tariffs, but do we know what Bessent really thinks about them?

But I seem to remember that during the campaign that Trumper posters here and on social media kept claiming that Trump didn't support Project 2025 and wasn't really associated with it, and it was all just librul rhetoric trying scare people. And yet here we are. Surely Dear Leader and his minions weren't lying through their teeth like they're always doing, were they? LOL.

John Bolton is a blood-thirsty ghoul. I’m glad no one is listening to what he has to say.
In fairness, though, he put a stop to Trump's Ukraine extortion. From what I understand, he didn't even ask the boss. He just told everyone to get the aid flowing. Yes, he probably did so because he feels personally offended if weapons are sitting around idle, but it was a laudable move.

Bolton has proven to be a guy who values country over party. That's not nearly enough to make him a guy I would ever want to work with, but it's at least something. Better than the GOPers like Cotton who are not only bloodthirsty but are just itching for a chance to open fire on Americans.
