If I were California I'd say kick rocks when it is time to pay into the federal till. Keep the money for fire relief.
Unfortunately, federal taxes are collected from individuals and corporations……not from states.

I don't think that the revenue comes from California directly, does it? Instead it comes from the citizens of CA via federal income taxes.

I guess you could have a movement within CA to refuse to pay federal income taxes and instead direct the money to the state, but that would be a significant event that would threaten to break the federal government at its foundation and put a lot of individuals at risk of violating federal law.

The more “broken” and “corrupt” they portray the federal government, the better for weeding out the “Deep State” and draining “the swamp.”
That's not really new for Trump, though, that's been the action of the Republican Party for almost 50 years now...

1) Claim that the government isn't effective or efficient
2) Take actions to reduce the effectiveness or efficiency of the government
3) Point out the ways that government is now less effective and efficient

They then use 3 as the "evidence" of 1 and start again.

Trump saying he'll "drain the swamp" has always been code for "removing competent folks who make government work effectively and efficiently" with his goal being to replace those with people who'll then owe him fealty. And for greater Republicans, they agree because they know breaking the government supports their goals, as well.

You can make sure your daughter doesn’t get her nose broken from a spike from a penis-wielding person.
sorta.

it's not such a big deal if the daughters get their noses broken while being SA'ed by a white boy. but it better not happen while they're playing sportsball.

The fact he only seems to think FEMA does disaster response is just numbingly sad.

Also, give states a percentage of the $$ for disasters? "Hey NC, here's $10 mil for Helene recovery. manage it" Then he blames the states.

Clearly he just wants to "run" disaster relief-take that power away from congress to allocate funds . Dear Master what do you want State X to do so you will grant us relief Yes ,total opposite of State's rights

To try and blackmail people when they are at their lowest after a natural disaster is pure Trump. Hey, that cot your kid is sleeping on might not be there tomorrow if you don’t start using voter ID.

“Ross Ulbricht’s first hopes for clemency died when a mob of Donald Trump’s supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol.

Trump had planned to commute the life sentence of the founder of the Silk Road online drug bazaar at the end of his first term, according to former U.S. officials and a political consultant who worked to secure Ulbricht’s release.

But in the fallout from the attack, White House officials said they didn’t want to further antagonize the Justice Department, which had prosecuted him, the consultant, Brian Anderson said

Ulbricht insisted he had set up the marketplace, which hawked illegal goods ranging from cocaine to fake driver’s licenses, to give people freedom to make their own choices about what they buy. It was a message that resonated with Libertarians; Trump acknowledged he granted the pardon for the movement’s support.

“I was a dumbass during my college-libertarian-anarchist days like Ross and just always felt bad for him,” said Anderson, who previously worked for former Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, a Republican, and emailed one of Ulbricht’s attorneys to offer his help.

… In December 2023, Trump had dinner at his Mar-a-Lago club with Angela McArdle, the chair of the Libertarian Party, who told him he needed to free Ulbricht if he wanted Libertarian support.

… Anderson said he also provided memos to Trump advisers that tried to link the case to Trump’s enemies, noting that the judge overseeing the case had been appointed to the bench by President Barack Obama and that the Obama Justice Department had brought the case. …”

Trump’s New U.S. Attorney in D.C. Comes to Aid of Oath Keepers Leader

Ed Martin, a longtime advocate for Jan. 6 defendants recently named to run the prosecutors’ office, sought to undo a judge’s order barring Stewart Rhodes from visiting Washington.

A little over two years ago, prosecutors in the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington obtained a landmark conviction against Stewart Rhodes, the leader of the Oath Keepers militia, on charges of seditious conspiracy for the role he played in the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

On Friday, the same office — now led by one of President Trump’s appointees, Ed Martin — effectively assumed the role of Mr. Rhodes’s defense lawyer, filing court papers that sought to reverse a federal judge’s order from earlier in the day that barred him and other convicted members of the far-right group from visiting Washington without permission.

… On Friday morning, Judge Amit P. Mehta, who oversaw Mr. Rhodes’s case, issued an order altering the terms of his supervised release, saying he could no longer enter Washington without the judge’s permission. Unlike hundreds of other Jan. 6 defendants, Mr. Rhodes was not fully pardoned by Mr. Trump; his 18-year prison term was reduced to time served. So Judge Mehta asserted control over his conditions of release.

… Mr. Martin was, to say the least, an unusual choice to run the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington, which took the lead in prosecuting members of the mob that stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 on Mr. Trump’s behalf.

He himself was a prominent member of the “Stop the Steal” movement that sought to overturn Mr. Trump’s loss in the 2020 election. The day before the assault on the Capitol, he called in a speech for “die-hard true Americans” to work until their “last breath” to “stop the steal.”

According to his own social media posts, he also appears to have been at the Capitol on Jan. 6. “Like Mardi Gras in DC today: love, faith and joy,” he wrote in one post. “Ignore #FakeNews.”

Moreover, Mr. Martin is still listed as a board member of the Patriot Freedom Project, one of the most prominent fund-raising organizations working to help pay legal fees for Jan. 6 defendants. He has also represented some of those defendants himself, squaring off against the very same federal prosecutors he now leads. …”

Sounds like utter crap.
Trump didn't go all in on the the cyberbros until this cycle.

Trump Pauses Disbursements to Program Supplying H.I.V. Treatment Worldwide

Pepfar, which is estimated to have delivered lifesaving treatment to as many as 25 million people in 54 countries, faces a funding delay of as long as 180 days.

“… That includes the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, known as Pepfar, a $7.5 billion program overseen by the State Department, officials were told in a memo on Wednesday obtained by The New York Times.

In a separate directive on Friday, also viewed by The Times, officials were informed that although the initial review of foreign aid is intended to be completed within 85 days, final decisions might take up to 180 days.

… The directive to halt existing foreign aid initiatives jeopardizes the lives of people who currently rely on assistance from the United States, some experts warned.

“Some of these programs are the only thing keeping refugee communities alive,” said Gyude Moore, a nonresident fellow at the Center for Global Development and Liberia’s former Minister of Public Works.

“Very vulnerable people will be hurt and it is unclear how this advances American interests,” Mr. Moore said.“
