TV Streaming series to talk about.

Real talk: The Penguin is my favorite member of Batman's Rogue gallery. I quit on Penguin three episodes in. It was Falcone's story superimposed on The Penguin, rather than a story about The Penguin. It was a fine story, but the wrong character. The Penguin should never be a bruiser.
Yeah, I didn’t buy the Penguin in that context either.

I can still remember blanching at the scope of Swamp Thing #50
I've read that one 50 times if I've read it once. It holds up to the best literature I've ever read, esp. in light of the fact that it was the culmination of a 2+ years buildup. Masterful...

Don't trust NetFlix.

Last two movies we have watched were both listed as the number one movie in the US. Ok, maybe people just have bad taste.

But, both basically sucked. At least iHostage was based on a true story, but it was long, slow, boring, and the ending...

Then there's Exterritorial. The lead is pretty nice to look at, but the plot, really?

I have pushed the time-for-TV chips all in for Your Friends and Neighbors. At first I was getting tired of some too-cute, almost sitcom type dialogue and narration, but I've gotten used to it, and the sharp observations of the Rich and Meaningless are really on-target. Hope they have a plan for the overall story path, but so far it really keeps your interest.

I'm on season 2 of Better Call Saul. When does it get good?
It is a show that gets progressively better through the seasons, but if you’re not liking it as of season 2, I’m not sure it’s worth it for you to keep going. But the subsequent seasons are better than the first two (but I also liked it all, and as a whole thought it was a fantastic series).

I have no idea when these two show on Apple arrived but both have solid writing and acting: dope Thief and Presumed Innocent (with Jake Gyllenhaal

I think the acting is great, and I think the story will end up being great, but it is so slow in getting there.

It’s so dang slow at the beginning but it is well worth the grind and the pacing picks up tremendously in the later seasons.

My next door neighbor is in the church band.
Most of the band is compromised of Charlotte band The Alternative Champs.
Yep. And there was a poster on the old ZZL on IC who was the original bassist of the Champs (I don’t think he’s made his way over here).

They were originally supposed to play my wedding, but my wife (who loves their music) had second thoughts after Mike (not sure if he’s the member who’s also your neighbor) had already agreed to it. So they didn’t play.

Danny McBride’s shows have involved other Charlotte musicians as well. He co-created and co-created Eastbound & Down with Charlotte native Ben Best, who was in the Charlotte band Pyramid and also played Clegg in the show. And Charlotte’s Benji Hughes performed the song “Kenny,” which was featured in Eastbound & Down.
