To be clear on Emoji useThat's all some intolerant posters know how to do and post little immature clown emojis as replies when someone says something they don't agree with. This board is no different than the other boards when it comes to juvenile responses.
i had this exchange with joey powell during the 2025 postseason - while i do agree and have become at least as big a fan lately of the Diamond Heels as I am a UNC football/basketball fan despite not having loved or even liked baseball for nearly as long, i do wish college baseball generally and UNC baseball specifically weren't so overwhelmingly white, because it's hard not to read some racial undertones, however accidental, into statements like "[the baseball players] are just phenomenal men and wonderful representatives of all that makes UNC special" as a contrast to the Blacker revenue sports on campus. We've got so many incredible sports programs on campus of which we can be proud, but Carolina Baseball may top the entire list. The coaches and players are just phenomenal men and wonderful representatives of all that makes the University of North Carolina special. And I've always been amazed at how the program has maintained such elite performance year over year for two decades now despite having comparatively significantly less institutional support and resources than all of the other top programs in the sport.
I think people would say those sorts of things about any team where the core players come, do well in the classroom, dont get into trouble outside of the classroom, volunteer often and generously in the community, and the roster stays consistent year after year. I believe most people who say those things simply are reflecting that UNC baseball represents to them what they are missing about the other college sports where they feel no carryover connection at all to the roster year to year. Fall in love with a Carolina baseball freshman (like Gavin Gallagher hitting a walk off grand slam or Walker McDuffie and his glasses) and you see that kid another 2 years guaranteed. They are a family. Our baseball program right now is as close to what Coach Smith wanted and built as anything we have ever had on campus.i had this exchange with joey powell during the 2025 postseason - while i do agree and have become at least as big a fan lately of the Diamond Heels as I am a UNC football/basketball fan despite not having loved or even liked baseball for nearly as long, i do wish college baseball generally and UNC baseball specifically weren't so overwhelmingly white, because it's hard not to read some racial undertones, however accidental, into statements like "[the baseball players] are just phenomenal men and wonderful representatives of all that makes UNC special" as a contrast to the Blacker revenue sports on campus.
i don't think coach forbes nor his staff nor anybody making this observation about our players is racist, to be clear (especially because Scott Jackson took a demotion just because it meant leaving Liberty for UNC) i just wonder if people would say this kind of thing as easily about a more diverse team.
