UNC basketball 2026 transfer portal

I wonder what changed Luka's mind. Never seen someone announce they are coming back and then say they are entering the portal.
He didn’t really announce. Andrew Jones just asked him a question and he said he was planning on coming back. But that was before his meeting with Malone.

It doesn’t take a lot of tea leaves reading to realize that Malone told him that he was not in the plans for next year.

Man I loved the idea of Luka but it never looked like it was going to translate to the college game for whatever reason. You can tell he’s a skilled player. Think he’s just not quite athletic enough. I’ll be really curious to see where he lands and if he ends up being a legitimate contributor on a good team.
He feels like someone who will blow up at another school.

He's not really a playmaker. That's what we looked to him for, and that's where he struggled (on offense at least).

In his next stop, he really needs to be a SG/three point scorer and his success will be determined by how reliable he can make that jumper

Every spot other than Veesaar's is upgradeable.

Luka out? A better player in.
Yeah, I am in agreement here. I dont see transfers as being an issue. Clearly we were not talented enough. The roster was poorly constructed. Build a better one.

I wish the kids well but that doesnt mean they will be meaningful players at Carolina.

I was never very impressed with Luka’s game last season, tbh. I think he realizes he’s about to be replaced anyway. Great hair though.
Well, it's really about projecting how good he will be next season. I think people see potential for him, but by no means is he can't miss. So I think that's why we're all lukewarm about him. It's fine if he stays (as opposed to, say, Evans who really should split), but also fine if he goes.

I do think Evans' struggles meant that Luka had to play more PG than he probably should.

It seems like players good enough to play in college from this current generation don't really grow up being fans of a certain team and just care about the team they are playing with and how much money they can make.

Hard to gauge decisions without hard evidence about compensation and value. If the rumors are right that he was making $2MM, then not great value. If he was closer to say $1MM, then its decent value.

In a vacuum I liked Luka's game. Thought he struggled on defense with athletic players. Don't think the offense did a good job of putting him in great spots (did that a bit better when Wilson went down). Thought he had great chemistry with Vasaar, but not with Wilson.

The LeBron effect. The money shows them where to take their talents....
