I've seen people throw Jerry Stackhouse's name out and as much as I love Stack there's no way he's getting the jobI don't see any credible family candidates.
I think "virtually guaranteed" is a little aggressive on the chances of UNC's seat at the big boy table. I have heard all the same reporting that we're the most attractive option for the P2 should they decide to expand further. But the college sports landscape is extremely unsettled right now and there are plenty of things that could happen - including Congressional intervention - that could shift the landscape again and make the P2 uninterested in expanding any further.Betting on UNC having a future seat at the big boy table isn't risky, it's virtually guaranteed. We're pretty much universally viewed as the most attractive option currently outside of the P2. And while some schools are working right now to blunt the advantages of P2 money, that's going to get harder and harder as that gap gets larger and larger. We're likely staring down a new haves/have nots gap between the P2 and the "left behinds" like what is between the P4/5 and the G6, if not that between the FBS and FCS. It's not going to be a small difference within the next 5-10 years and that's within Lloyd's remaining career.
Looking around Google for Arizona's NIL number, the most consistent range is between $8mil to a bit under $10mil while Carolina was at $14mil for this year. While there is no guarantee that the gap will stay that large, a $3mil annual gap is certainly reasonable based on this year's numbers. Even if the gap is $2mil, that helps bring in a bit more better talent each year.
0.0%After an exhaustive, nation-wide search, anybody place any odds whatsoever the hire will still be family?
10%?
20%?
2%?
Or is it a done deal… we’re going 100% away from family on this one, no matter what?
Even if all the names bandied about thus far turn us down?
And the search drags on for weeks… months… getting increasingly embarrassing?
Not saying this will happen, just a worst case scenario “what if”
I agree which after staying in the family since 1962 we get to see what an outsider with no connection to UNC can do to beat dook** year after year, win 30 games/year, have great metrics, and be seeded 1st,2nd,or 3rd seed in the NCAAT0.0%
Kind of amazing how the UNC coaching tree has dried up.The only two remotely viable UNC family candidates would be Stackhouse and Miller, and the fan base would (rightfully so) riot if either of those guys got hired. Retaining Hubert would have been the infinitely preferable option in comparison.
I think there's a better chance UNC would re-hire Roy Williams as coach than hire either Miller or Stack right now. Neither scenario is obviously happening. The only two remotely viable UNC family candidates would be Stackhouse and Miller, and the fan base would (rightfully so) riot if either of those guys got hired. Retaining Hubert would have been the infinitely preferable option in comparison.
At this point, I don't either.I don't think there's any chance we hire someone from the family
It WILL NOT be a family hire. That you can eliminate from your thinking. For the sake of “never say never,” I’ll put the odds at <1%.After an exhaustive, nation-wide search, anybody place any odds whatsoever the hire will still be family?

I think the only official statements were that they were pausing other major decisions (like the new arena) to focus on finding the new coach and then Bubba's statement when announcing HD's departureAt this point in time, has any viable candidate said anything at all? (Other than Lloyd's answer to that question in his presser)
Has UNC made any sort of announcement other than the firing of HD? Something like: "We are beginning our search, and it will be nation-wide and exhaustive... we will take our time." Or perhaps said something like "Our intentions will be announced soon, but only after the NCAAT is complete"
Has anybody said anything at all - or is it all just speculation by talking heads and social media joints like this one?
I don't want someone with zero college experienceAnother name that surely has 0% chance but nonetheless I'm surprised I've not seen mentioned anywhere is Steve Kerr. He's a FA at the end of the season, and I think there's a decent chance he's not coaching the Warriors next season. He's the same age as Billy Donovan, in fact 6 months younger.
I think there's no shot he would take the job, but he did play with Jordan, and Stackhouse is currently one of his assistants. Would be funny though if UNC hired Tommy Lloyd and Kerr went back to his alma mater and coached Arizona.
I think if he's not coaching the Warriors next year he takes a year off to do TV before deciding if he wants to coach again. He's definitely had some health issues so not sure how much desire he has to continue to coach.
Totally get that and agree. But I was speculating "after a month's-long exhaustive search" - that might lean towards embarrassing. But we all hope and pray that won't happen. It WILL NOT be a family hire. That you can eliminate from your thinking. For the sake of “never say never,” I’ll put the odds at <1%.
Currently, there is nothing to be embarrassed about. Our top targets are still playing. If Lloyd, May, and Donovan all say no, then we can start worrying.
You mean like when Zona hired Lloyd and Kansas hired Roy... or when UNC hired El Deano?I don't want someone with zero college experience
