UNC Basketball Possible coaches

I hate it when people say this nonsense. Frank Maguire was a New Yorker and many of our best players have come from the Northeast. Hurley has a temper and cusses. In this day and age post Coach K and Maga I don’t think that is all that important anymore.

I would be more opposed to SEC type win at all cost coaches like Oates.

Hurley turned down the Lakers, one of the best jobs in basketball, because he wanted to stay in the Northeast.

Would Iowa State’s AD tweet something this definitive if he wasn’t certain that his head men’s basketball coach wasn’t leaving?

Everyone is committed until they accept their next job.

That's not to say that TJO would certainly come, if offered, but no one volunteers they're leaving before they have their next job in hand.

I'll be concerned if we hear from TJO directly that he's staying/signing an extension or we hear from sources on the Carolina side that he's not showing interest.

IMO, it's just dumb and useless to ask a coach a question like this before the NCAA tournament is over, or at least until their team is knocked out of the tournament. No coach with a team still alive in the tourney is going to say "Oh, yeah, I'd love to leave my current team that's still in this tournament and jump ship to another program." They're either going to say "no" in the strongest way possible or make it clear that they're not going to discuss it right then, even if in private they are interested.

And I well remember Roy saying that, and I didn't really blame him. He and his KU team had just suffered a devastating loss in a hard-fought NCAA national championship game by just three points, and if I recall correctly he either had just spoken to his players in the locker room or was about to. Maybe he could/should have worded it differently, but that was not the time to put that question to him.

Nope

Next.
I'm not so sure, there's no way any coach is going to even hint that they're interested while their current team is still competing in the tournament. And the AD is just repeating what TJ said at the conference. I wouldn't write him or any other coach with a team still in the tournament off until their team is knocked out and private conversations have been held.

Okay. Unless there's been an agreement between TJ and the AD.
