No. UNC was not 8-4 each year in 2020-2023. It wasn’t just the overall record and ACC record, it was how those seasons ended, except
- 2020 - 8-4 (7-3) Mack 2.0’s best team. Beat Wake, d00k, and ncsulol. Backdoored into a bowl and got our ass kicked
- 2021 - 6-7 (3-5). Started the season ranked #10 and lost the opener to VT, which was 6-7 (4-4) for the season. Beat Wake and d00k. Lost to ncsulol, 34-30. This was the game that State scored twice in 26 seconds with a recovered on-sides kick between the two scores. Lost 3 of its last 4 games. The win was over Wofford.
- 2022 - 9-5 (6-2). Lost badly to Clemson in the ACCCG. Lost the last 4 games of the season. Did beat d00k and Wake.
- 2023 - 8-5 (4-4). Lost last 3 games and 5 of last 7. State stomped us. Beat Wake and d00k.
- 2016 - 8-5 (5-3). Lost to d00k and ncsulol.
- 2017 - 3-9 (1-7)
- 2018 - 2-9 (1-7)
- 2019 - 7-6 (4-4). Beat d00k and ncsulol

now take all the schools like unc in every conference and you will find the dollar amt is up in the hundreds of millions on coaches that they will just replace sooner than later hoping to find that 'magic' potion staff lmao. the magic potion is get better fucking players you bunch of morons esp now that we can pay and really compete with the osu's and bama's for players which wasnt very realistic b4 nil. what does our dumbass uni do they spend a ton on old coach again and not players. we cant beat anyone in the top 100 b/c we dont have the players to..... just plain stupidity

now name the thousands of other coaches who were fired. that 89 dook team was co acc champ with uva even though uva blew them out reg season. regardless dook still lost four games that yr and didnt finish ranked in the top 25.
Even if you were fine with Mack’s inability to ever beat good teams or his penchant for absurd losses as like a 5 TD favorite, he still obviously had to go after last season. The team had quit on him and he had lost all of his juice on the recruiting trail. If those things happen to you as a 74 year old coach then it’s almost impossible to reverse course.
I think mack was done in by both nil and portal. He always out talented people and his gameday coaching at times was inexplicable. He did not have the money to compete in NIL and the portal allowed talent to leave easily. Still, if he had had this year's defense, not great but serviceable, we would have sprinkled in a couple 10 win seasons.

I very rarely read IC or TarHeels247 anymore but was perusing this morning. Holy effing smokes, man, I don't know what on earth has happened to those boards but they are absolute cesspools of anger, insecurity, and infighting. Been reading IC for over 20 years since I was in middle school and never seen it this bad. Makes me incredibly grateful for everyone here in this community on this board. Even in disagreement, I tremendously appreciate how we're able to remain mostly cordial, respectful, and civil (obviously we all have our occasional momentary lapses- myself especially). It's pretty disheartening to go over there and read how angry and defensive everyone is- quite literally any criticism of Belichick and Lombardi, no matter how cordial or backed by data and evidence, is met immediately with nasty vitriol by the same 3-4 posters. I truly had no idea how many grown ass men there are out there whose fandom is somehow inexplicably threatened by *other* people not liking the same coaches they do.

people all get wildly different things out of their internet use.
some of us use it for relatively wholesome and productive things like connecting with friends/family, sharing and discussing ideas and researching topics of interest.
other people use it for too much of their social interaction or for maintaining weird, toxic parasocial relationships and/or, wittingly or unwittingly, as an outlet to express psychological issues - anger, insecurity, paranoia, hurt, obsession, etc. etc.

Yeah, I’m doing the $1 thing right now but the moment that ends, I’m ending it. I get all of the UNC news and discussion here that I could possibly want, and get to do it with people who aren’t emotionally stunted goobers unable to handle criticism of multi-million dollar coaches without hurling insults and questioning someone’s fandom.
They’re mad at Don because he ended up being right about what a garbage recruiting strategy that blowhard Lombardi had coming in last year.

Probably stems from Don being pretty early on the negative slant. Was basically telling people that last years recruiting philosophy and execution were an absolute mess

On 247, some have criticized Andrew Jones for mentioning a mass exodus following the season. Never mind inside information, just a glance at the number of incoming players for next season tells you there’s going to have to a large group leaving.

And lo and behold, whattaya know, the guy who has been the expert authority on recruiting in the state of North Carolina for more than two decades ended up being right, and the loser who hasn’t had a real football job in over a decade and who nobody in the NFL would touch with a 50 foot pole, was laughably wrong! Who could’ve possibly seen this coming???

Right! Those folks over there are just as nuts attacking AJ. It’s like….guys….its just the math! Anyone with beyond a first grade understanding of arithmetic understands that if we have 40+ high school recruits coming in, and we want to add 20-30 portal recruits, and the roster is capped at 105…..well, you know!
Well that loser is putting together an incredibly solid class right now despite the on-field struggles and while there were predictions this class would fall apart we have 3 commits this week and vibes strong on a couple more 4 stars. Signing day is a week from now. I will predict now they kill portal just like Hubert did.
